MR AND MRS POTUS WITH THE QUEEN AND THE PRINCE

Oh my! What a wonderful picture. Ours look good even without the ribbons and medals.

Photo stolen from Leonardo at Eruptions at the Foot of the Volcano, who is over the rainbow. He credits the photo to the AP.

And from Paddy Anglican: POTUS and ME in Moneygall, Ireland....

Here I am showing President Obama the parish records showing his Irish ancestry.

And from USA Today:
After basking amid one of the most affectionate audiences of his presidency Monday in Ireland, Obama arrived here to be feted by a queen and three generations of princes.

He and first lady Michelle Obama were welcomed at Buckingham Palace, where they were given a six-room suite last occupied by Prince William and his bride, Kate Middleton, on their wedding night.

They were fawned over at Westminster Abbey, greeted warmly at No. 10 Downing St. and, finally, lauded at the first state dinner thrown here for a U.S. president in eight years.

Gosh. The Obamas may decide to stay "over there".

  1. It must be a temptation to just stay "over there"!

  2. Diane, at least President Obama did not ask that a bunker be built in Buckingham Ralace before he went to stay. Do you remember that? What an embarrassment! And so far as I know he has not yet run over a policeman with a bicycle.

  3. So, any clue if his Irish ancestors were Catholic or Protestant?

  4. margaret, Paddy Anglican is a priest in the Church of Ireland, which may give you a clue.

  5. In the picture, Ms. O looks stunning. Mr. O looks very uncomfortable in that tux, which doesn't seem to fit quite right.

The Royals look like they were born in those clothes.

  6. Did Mrs O put her arm around Herself this time? It's telling that the stories of Royal Resentment that surfaced during the Reagan & Bush Jr state visits are not showing up this time. On the other hand, some of the press right-wing nasties are having a field day - "when he’s in Africa, of course ..... he disappears into the dry ice and re-emerges with a grass skirt and a bone through his nose" - this from The Telegraph, yet.

  7. The Obamas are a handsome couple, aren't they

  8. Counterlight, Mr O's vest looks a bit loose. He usually wears his clothes well, but I think you're right about him in this picture.

Lapin, what idiots. Rush says the visit to Ireland was a campaign stop to get the Irish vote in the next election. I hope it works.

Dinglepole, or whatever the journalist's name is, is dead wrong. Blair and Bush were made for each other, like Reagan and Thatcher.

IT, yes, and it's such a good feeling not to have an embarrassment as president.

  9. If the volcano keeps spewing ash - they may be there for awhile

  10. Nice to see the President getting more respect than he gets here.

  11. Ann, I see that some flights out of the north of England and Scotland are cancelled.

    "micks"? I didn't say that.

Paul, yes indeed, but the nastiest commentary I've read is from Delingpole, who is English and is quoted in the Telegraph, as Lapin shows above. He's not kind to his own PM either.

James...now eagerly seeking ways to escape David Cameron’s neo fascist Big Society Britain, so if any right-wing US think tanks want to offer a visiting fellowship or any presenters’ slots fall available on Fox News you know where to go.

Let's hope he gets no offers here.

  12. Lovely photograph of the four 'first people' but the men are wearing white tie and tails (I think a tuxedo is what we call a dinner jacket this side of the Atlantic?) Think Fred Astaire. I agree the President's waistcoat/vest looks a little loose, but maybe he wants to be able to 'do the Continental'? (more Fred Astaire - and no, I don't remember the film from the first time around, don't be cheeky!). The Queen used to love dancing, but I don't think she's still up to doing a Ginger. Still, we don't know what they did behind closed doors after the party was over, do we?

  13. No mention in the papers that I (moi, me) arrived in London last night. And no invitation to Buckingham Palace yet. I think I will go and sulk :-)

One thing's for certain, we'd appreciate him a lot more than most Americans do. Heck, he has such immaculate manners it's as if he was born and raised here. In fact I'm surprised that those who believe he isn't really American haven't used this as conclusive proof of their allegations.

Hmmm...we don't, Lay Anglicana. Curb you imagination.

Of course, Mr O wears white tie, which is de rigueur at a state dinner.

I think I will go and sulk :-)

Brian R, it was an oversight in both instances, and I'm sure heads will roll.

Heck, he has such immaculate manners it's as if he was born and raised here.

MadPriest, indeed, Obama's impeccable manners remind me very much of your own.

  16. I think they're actually even better than mine. He doesn't let his slip when he gets grumpy.

  17. He doesn't let his slip when he gets grumpy.

    Yes, there was the time....

    And that other time....

Oh yes. And I forgot the time....

    I need to stop thinking.

  18. All true, but everybody will work out the cause of my grumpiness I'm sure.

  19. The top picture reminds me of what the fortune-teller told Muamar Gadafi: You will meet a tall dark man, and go on a long journey...

  20. Tobias, what would I do without you and your "please leave the stage" jokes?
