MERRIE OLDE ENGLAND YET AGAIN

Yes, England again. I was in Merrie Olde England just two years ago, and, for a very brief spell, just last year on the way to Scotland. I'll be in the South for the greater part of the time this trip.

My best price for flights seems always to land me in Manchester, which is fine by me. It's a nice, manageable airport; going through immigration is usually pretty quick and uncomplicated; and the train station is connected to the airport, handy for the ride to London. Besides, I dislike both Heathrow and Gatwick intensely.

Blogging will be light until Friday, when I leave, at which time I will turn off the comments while I'm gone. As my friend Ann said, "Enjoy your time in 'real' without much 'virtual'." That's what I intend to do, as I will not have a computer with me.

Below are a couple of the places I will go.

The Royal Opera in London

The Cobb at Lyme Regis

I'll return near the end of July.

Photo of the Cobb from Wikipedia.

UPDATE: I'm bumping this post up to be the last before I leave tomorrow to explain where I am and why the comments are turned off.

  3. Have a wonderful trip, Grandmere! I don't suppose you'll be able to swing a second evening at the ROH to catch the unbelievably amazing and down-to-earth native Kansan Joyce DiDonato in Cendrillon?

Ah, to be in England again!

  5. Len, thanks. I look forward to your package. Abrazos.

Cathy, me, too! Will you do Granny's teeth at the Cobb?

annski, the night after Butterfly, we will see Pinter's Betrayal. I suppose it's too late to buy opera tickets now. Cathy takes care of all that.

  11. Enjoy but head a bit further west into Devon also.

I might suggest Colyton, "the most rebellious town in Devon". I stayed at a nice B&B there a few years ago. Though for really different, get thee down to Cornwall.

  16. Thanks for the good wishes for my trip, everyone. I'm getting excited. I leave day after tomorrow!

Chris, since I will have only sporadic access to the internet, I'll zip you an email, because it would be better for me to have a phone number.

Brian R, I so wish that we had been in England at the same time.

  17. We shall expect you to be an accomplished Morris Dancer by the time of your return. And since you'll be in the South, make sure that Cathy runs you by the Cerne Abbas Giant

  18. Lapin, I'll carry along my cheerleader outfit to wear when I take the fast track to become an accomplished Morris Dancer.

The Cerne Abbas Giant seems a must-see attraction. He's a giant in every way.

  19. When I saw the giant, the three-year-old daughter of friends, who was with us, regarded it solemnly for some time, then commented "It doesn't look much like a man to me".

  20. Aforesaid three=-year-old has been an Anglican priest (Southwark, I believe) for some years.

  21. I'm jealous! After only getting a chance to do London in April with not enough time I'd love to be in your suitcase! Have a grand time!

  22. Ciss B, thanks. Too bad I decided to travel light. :-)

  23. I like Gatwick but detest Heathrow. Manchester is a great airport and I love the train ride to London.

Have a WONDERFUL time "real" and "virtual".

  24. Elizabeth, thank you. I love Manchester airport. It's one of the nicest airports I've ever flown into. Get a buggy, change some money, walk to the train station, and off to Euston Station in London, where, if everything works out, Cathy will meet me.

I even found £13 and some change in a drawer left over from last year.
