TIRED,TIRED, TIRED

Today I feel as though I've been trying with my bare hands to hold President Obama and Democrats in the Senate and the House accountable to implement the policies which led me to vote for them in the first place - policies which will bring a measure of fairness and equality to the citizens of the United States.  I know I'm not alone and that many others are fighting, too, but I'm tired and about ready to give up.  Among the politicians who know what is right, few have either the courage or the will to do the right thing.

I'm tired of the Democrats' appeasement of Republican politicians who apparently care only about rich donors who fill their campaign chests.  Keep in mind that all in the Congress are well-cared for with their yearly automatic raises that they don't even have to vote on, and their generous benefits and pensions.  I'm tired of Democrats who feel the need to express politically-correct concern about the deficit at this time, when they know what the people of the country want and need are jobs and money to pay their bills and buy the goods and services that are produced here, which would help the economy recover.  A strong economic recovery would, in itself, help reduce the deficit.  Why don't elected officials in the Democratic Party stop talking about the deficit and stay on message about creating jobs, jobs, jobs and a return to a robust economic recovery?  Our infrastructure is falling apart.  Why is it a good thing for the wealthiest country in the world to have a collapsing infrastructure?  Put people to work repairing and rebuilding.

Why is the stock market booming, reaching record heights, when so many in the country are suffering?  Watch the video below, which has gone viral.  The graphs are shocking, and, for me, depressing as they demonstrate the ever-widening income gap between the poor and middle class and the richest people in the country, the inequality that few politicians in the country are willing to address with realistic policies that will improve conditions for a large majority of the people.
Tired...

  1. Makes me a bit crazy on top of the weary ... what is it the "conservatives" are so relentlessly conserving? Not the planet (see insistence on that pipeline) or democracy (see voter id law scam) or liberty (see the travesty that is the for profit prison system) ... what they are so desperate to "conserve" is their entitlement to power ... saw it coming in their raging denial of the reality of a Black man elected President, the disrespect of both the man and the office, the hysteria that followed among certain groups. They think they will "win" by wearing us out, outlasting and outspending the thoughtful grown ups who actually care and consider the effects of our actions on others ... who still believe in the dignity of every human life, not just theirs. Astonishing, how often and loudly the wealthy begrudge even the slightest comfort or gain that the poor earn ... actually EARN, not inherit. I get your weariness, really I do ... and know that it is simply not in you to quit ... I find a nice afternoon nap and a wee dram of elderly single malt scotch helps :-).

    1. The planet? Democracy? The words make me laugh right at the moment. I may need to take a break. It's the Democrats who disappoint me. I don't expect anything good out of the Republicans.

  2. Tired with you. And tremendously disappointed --in the same way that made me disappointed and not vote in protest for about two decades. I only became involved again when Obama was up for election because I felt so much was at stake --and it is, and still is. But I'm tired... and tremendously disappointed....

    1. You think what's the point? The Republicans want to destroy Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and now I wonder if all but a few Democrats care about the programs enough to fight for them.

    2. You realize of course, that next time the Republicans get into the White House, they will do to the entire nation what your beloved governor has done to the fair state of Louisiana, don't you?

Unless they repent in the meantime, but is there any hope of that?

    3. Russ, I've tried to explain to people here who have lost faith in Jindal but who still don't like Obama, people in my own family, that if Romney had been elected president, he would have governed the entire country the way Jindal runs the state. It's no use. They do not make the connection.

    4. Was it Mark Twain or Will Rogers who said: "People generally get the government they deserve."

    5. The statement is often quoted as "In a democracy, people get the government they deserve," and often attributed to Alexis de Toqueville ... but it's hard to verify where he said it, and even whether he really did.

However, there is a similar and well-documented quotation by Joseph de Maistre: "Every country has the government it deserves (Toute nation a le gouvernement qu’elle mérite")

  3. I know when I am powerless (usually when I fall flat on my face)...for me, sometimes it IS better to let nature take it's course. I quite often am surprised at what happens when I loosen my clutching mind on the throat of reality...it's like taking a spiritual vacation (no need to feel slothful about letting go for a while)! Me, I once thought it was irresponsible on my part not to worry - that's how obsessed I can be. Love to you, relax, enjoy, you are loved, Len

    1. Len, I feel powerless and without energy right now, and I think it's best to let go for a while, though I may find I still have to vent. Thank you, my friend.

  4. I think what I am most tired of(and I know this is shallow) is all the emails, letters I get asking for money to prevent the PACs(yes, again!!)from being the only money out there! Carl Rove or whoever is lying to us all, etc. etc., etc. and we must save this bill or that bill from being roundly defeated. . . I don't know, really.

    1. I'm with you there, susan s. I gave some during the campaign, but I'm not giving now. I've signed petition after petition, but I've pretty much stopped, because I doubt they accomplish anything. In the end the politicians seem to do what they want, and the big money people get their way.
