WOE IS HE

Yesterday, my grandson broke his wrist after tripping and falling in in PE class. Just what we need.... My son is a single dad with full custody of my grandson and half-time custody of his older sister, age 17. I'm with my grandson, who is 12, in the afternoons till his dad gets home from work, when his sister is not at the house.

At first, the doctor thought he would have to insert pins to hold the bones in place, but he was able to set the break without pins and put on a cast.  GS is at my house today and may return to school tomorrow.  We'll see.  School will be closed Good Friday.  He wanted my readers to see the color he chose for his cast.

I didn't sleep well, and I'm a little spacey today, so if I say silly stuff, you will know why.

  1. That's a bummer, Mimi. Hope the healing will go well!

  2. He will be out of that in no time. My daughter fractured her elbow last summer. One week in a splint, two weeks in a cast and she was good to go.

    1. Josh went right to the cast. If only, Melanie. I'm not setting my hopes that high. Six weeks if he's lucky.

  3. Is he left-handed? It would come in handy if he were.

    1. Right-handed, susan. Since the cast is pretty far down on his hand, I don't know that he'll be able to write.

  4. Leaping into the air -- what Melanie said -- the wonder of youth and the beauty of it all!

  6. Oooh, I think my dad chose that same color (Dec 2011) when he broke his wrist! [He hadn't had a cast since the plaster days, and was impressed by the process]

Prayers for GS, Mimi . . . and for the whole "Pere" clan.

    1. Thanks, JCF. Patrick has more work cut out for him, such as bathing Joshua. Josh may get the hang of it on his own, but I'm not sure. Tom had to help me shower when I broke my shoulder, but I was not in a cast.

  7. Mimi, that's not good - really sorry to hear Joshua has injured himself :( I hope he'll get better soon ... Just goes to show PE is bad for the health.

    1. No, we did not need this. Josh does not like PE class, so he is excused for a while, but he does have to sit on the bench and watch.

    2. Sitting on the bench and watching sounds like a form of torture too.

  8. I'm not getting why this is such a big occasion of family distress all round - I broke my arm falling off a bike at 14, and spent six or eight weeks learning to do things one-handedly - including taking a bath and shampooing my hair - even in that period learned how to tie a necktie for the very first time - one-handed! - and I was no kind of athlete and loathed PE - kids are very resilient that way. But if you say its a big deal for whatever reasons, then for you it is, and my best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to Josh and you all.

    1. Russ, the family dynanics are complicated, and I am in the middle. The break is no big deal, except that it comes on top of other stuff.
