IT'S NOT THE GUNS - PART 4

A Texas girl died on Tuesday night after being accidentally shot with an AK-47 assault-style rifle while her stepbrother was “making the weapon safe by pulling the trigger,” authorities said.

In a press release on Wednesday, Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alford explained that deputies responded to a call Tuesday night about 8 p.m to find 13-year-old Emilee Bates shot in the stomach.
....

Bates was taken to a Fort Worth hospital, where she died at around 10 p.m. Tuesday night. Officials said that the incident was considered an accident and no charges would be filed.

According to KXAS, this was the fourth fatal accidental shooting of a child in North Texas in less than one month.
What every household needs: a loaded AK-47.  Four fatal accidental shootings of children just in north Texas in one month, but it's not about guns.  Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!  How many children's deaths will it take to bring us to our senses?

  1. “making the weapon safe by pulling the trigger"

There's a moral-to-the-story there, but I'll be damned if I can find what it is.

    1. It was an accident; no charges filed; no one is responsible; it's not the guns. Yet a beautiful 13 year old girl is dead. If the boy was ever taught about gun safety, he didn't learn the lesson. And WTF was a loaded AK-47 doing in the house?

  2. She was celebrating her 13th birthday. What a tragedy. Anyone who can "forget" that there are other live rounds in the magazine doesn't have a brain. And why was he pointing the gun at his step sister?

Wondering if holding parents criminally liable for these deaths would be helpful.

    From the article:

"The sheriff’s office said that McCord had ejected two “dummy” rounds from the AK-47, but he had forgotten about other live rounds in the magazine."

“He believed he was making the weapon safe by pulling the trigger to drop the bolt on an empty chamber,” Jones noted in the news release. “However, the chamber wasn’t empty and discharged.”

    1. Bonnie, that is one of the strangest explanations I've ever heard. All those rounds - I guess it's hard to keep count
