ABOUT THE "BOWLING GREEN MASSACRE"

On Chris Matthews' show last night, Kellyanne Conway cited the "Bowling Green Massacre" in Kentucky as a reason that Obama put a six month ban on the Iraqi refugee program as an "Obama did it, too" defense of Trump's executive order banning immigrants from seven majority Muslim countries.  Matthews did not follow up and ask Conway about her reference to the "Bowling Green Massacre" that "didn't get covered" during the interview.

The "Bowling Green Massacre" never happened, and Matthews might have been able to clarify Conway's statement right then and there if he had stopped her and asked about the massacre, but he did not.  Thanks to Conway and Matthews, the massacre will live on as an alternative fact in certain fevered minds.  Conway later tweeted that she misspoke and meant to say "Bowling Green terrorists", but I'm certain her original reference will have a long life and will continue to be cited by Trump supporters.

Also, Obama never put a six months ban on Iraqi refugees.

Alex Wagner explains on CBS.

Reactions to the "Bowling Green Massacre" on Twitter are hilarious.  Below are two of my favorites:

Saddened and sickened by Frederick Douglass' silence surrounding the Bowling Green Massacre.

Where were you when  didn't happen? I was in Stockholm, getting a Nobel Prize. It was awesome. https://twitter.com/CNN/status/827528325363019778

  1. The "Bowling Green" incident (if not "massacre") is, I've read, a staple of alt-right fever swamps, proof of the perfidy of Obama and the weakness of our ability to repel evil Islamic terrorists who want to kill us all. Conway wasn't making it up out of whole cloth, IOW, she was reciting talking points from the Breitbart wing of the country. She brought it up so quickly and easily because she sincerely believed it had been hidden by the MSM due to Obama's evil powers. Or something.

    Anyway: Thanks, Obama!

    1. Since I did not know the "massacre" had a life before Kellyanne mentioned it on TV, I must be reading all the wrong sources. As far as conflating and eliding different incidents, rather than making stuff up out of whole cloth, the Breitbart wing has used that trick for a long time.

  2. I just read about the Breitbart link myself. These tales spilling out of the White House are even more frightening when you realize they have a context, and a pedigree.

Makes you wonder what other nonsense they subscribe to, and when we're going to find out about it, and how.....

    1. Bannon was feeding misinformation to Trump throughout the campaign. Now he is a permanent member of the National Security council, which is chilling.

As I said on Facebook: Has the intervention been scheduled yet? Mitch? Paul? Ivanka? Don, Jr? Eric? Bueller?

  3. From Russ:

Her coverup is such an obvious lie. If you go back to the original sentence she spoke and replace "massascre" with "terrorists," it makes no sense whatsoever. She is LYING, plain and simple.

But I believe that is in her job description as mouthpiece of the Liar-in-Chief.

    1. It's much harder to remember exactly which lie you told than it is to remember the truth. Conway doesn't seem to care. Once a lie is out there, it becomes the alternate fact, and that suits Team Trump quite well. I don't know how they sleep nights.
