THAT'S OUR BOBBY

Funding for the disabled and arts programs fell out of the $25 billion state spending plan Friday with the stroke of Gov. Bobby Jindal’s veto pen.

The governor deleted $4 million aimed at whittling down a waiting list for home-based services for the developmentally disabled. Parents of disabled children pleaded with legislators during the session to shorten the list. Some could wait 10 years before receiving services.
....

After issuing the vetoes, the governor flew to California for Republican National Committee meetings.

Jindal also stripped money for children’s clinics, family violence programs and an organization that helps the disabled become more independent through technological tools.
Do your dirty work and run, Guvna.  You don't want to be in Louisiana, anyway.  The trail of wreckage you leave behind is so ugly that maybe even you don't want to look.  What's next once your term is up?  Since you have your eyes on a prize on the national scene, why not now?  Is there a powerful Republican out there who will make you an offer you can't refuse right at this moment?  Not every governor completes her/his term.  Take Sarah Palin.  I'm sure a good many people in Alaska thought, "Take Sarah Palin.  Please!"

MCCAIN TO MITT

John McCain this morning on choosing his candidate for vice-president in 2008:
“The absolute, most important aspect is, if something happened to him, would that person be well qualified to take that place?” said McCain.  “I happen to believe that was the primary factor in my decision in 2008.  And I know it will be Mitt’s.”

And McCain did not choke on the words.

H/T to Charles Pierce.

NO THANK YOU, SARAH

For what it's worth, I'm trying not to write about Sarah Palin, but the article in the Guardian about Palin's attempt to have a photo-op with Margaret Thatcher tickled my funny bone.
A firestorm on the US right has erupted after the Guardian reported that Sarah Palin will be denied a meeting with Lady Thatcher on the grounds that it would be "belittling" for her to meet the darling of the Tea Party movement.

Rush Limbaugh, the conservative radio host, devoted the opening section of his radio show to denouncing the "preposterous" Guardian report, as Palin supporters accused Thatcher's circle of disgracing the former prime minister.

The US conservative right reacted furiously after the Guardian reported that Thatcher's aides had decided it would be inappropriate for her to meet Palin, who is planning to visit London next month en route to Sudan.
....

One Thatcher ally told the Guardian: "Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts."

I don't know about the rest of my fellow Americans, but I take the aide's remark as a personal affront. My favorite radio talk show host was right there with me in high dudgeon. You ain't seen nuthin' yet, until you've see Rush in firestorm mode, which he's in nearly every day. What a wonder that Rush so often finds an issue, or two, or three to set him on fire.

Lady Thatcher will be busy on July 4th attending the unveiling of a statue of Ronald Reagan in front of the US Embassy on the 100th anniversary of his birth. My question: Will Palin crash the event?

RUN SARAH RUN! - ER, RIDE!

From The Note:
As speculation swirls over whether former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will enter the race for the 2012 presidential campaign, former 2008 Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain (AZ) said this morning that he thinks Palin can win in a race against President Obama in 2012.

“Of course, she can,” Senator John McCain made said on “Fox News Sunday” this morning. “She can. Now, whether she will or not, whether she'll even run or not, I don't know.”
....

“She [Palin] also inspires great passion, particularly among Republican faithful.” McCain said.

Sarah inspires my passion to hope that she will run and win the Republican nomination.

I'm puzzled that Sarah's not in the driver's seat in the picture. She doesn't function at all well in second place. Still, from the rear seat of a motorcycle, I suppose she hasn't much choice but to follow the leader.

BEST COVERAGE YET OF THE GOP MEETING IN NOLA

From Gambit's Blog of New Orleans:

When she entered the ballroom of the Riverside Hilton, the 3,000 or so people packed elbow-to-elbow in their banquet room chairs visibly stiffened; she brings an itchy electricity in her wake, a sort of restlessness that’s reflected in her speech, which is relentlessly upbeat but sort of lurches from topic to topic without transitions.

Truest comment:

Yep, the Republicans are definitely in town. Last night, for the first time in my life, I saw an orderly queue for the streetcar.

Also from Gambit, the video "Great Performances: I Am the World" by New York Magazine.

The coverage of the meeting by the two big local newspapers is somewhat lackluster.

SARAH PALIN - "TAKE BACK THE 20"

Sarah Palin: Don’t Get Demoralized! Get Organized! Take Back the 20!

From Sarah's Facebook page.

Crosshairs? Of course, the images must be suggestive of the sights in a telescope or surveying instrument, don't you think?

UPDATE: On Sarah's Information Blog, she says,"Don’t Retreat. Reload!!!" above a picture of a person holding a rifle.
