We are sad to report the death of Laptop, the Cathedral cat. The
friendly feline had lived at the Cathedral for many years and it was
estimated that he was over 18 years old.
Laptop was a free spirit and the exact story of how he came to live
at the Cathedral is somewhat of a mystery. It is believed he started his
life here visiting the choir boys at Choir House, and this is how we
think he got his name, as he was forever trying to jump on people’s lap
when they stroked him.
See the cathedral website for more adorable pictures of Laptop. Surely after 18 years at Canterbury, Laptop ought to have a title, if only honorary.
His title was "cat," which far outweighs any other mere human invention.
ReplyDeleteTrue, Mark.
DeleteAw.
ReplyDeleteLaptop also looks a lot like our friend Skittles' kitteh, "Marmalade". Marms went on ahead to Catnip Heaven just a few months ago. :-(..
Well, Marms was there to welcome Laptop to Catnip Heaven, so there's that---
The dark, rust-colored stripes are striking. We don't see many cats with such markings around here.
DeleteCanon Laptop???
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, Tim. Purrfect.
DeleteWhy thank you! There's something very eccentrically Anglican about the idea of a cathedral cat, isn't there?
ReplyDeleteI've seen church dogs, too, dogs that stay for services lying near the altar and behaving very well.
DeleteI thought every Anglican cathedral had a cat - at least most in England do. See http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cathedral-Cats-Richard-Surman/dp/0007235631
ReplyDeleteAnd most have a story- see http://www.purr-n-fur.org.uk/featuring/church05.html
No cathedral's complete without a cat!
