Off To First Communion Celebration

I tried to find a cute First Communion picture to post, but no luck. My next to youngest grandson will be receiving his First Communion tomorrow this morning in New Orleans. We'll be eating out afterwards at one of the Chinese restaurants where they cook right at the table. The kids love that. The chef tosses food to them. It's OK, because we're in a closed room, so if the chef misses, he doesn't hit other customers.

Also, say a prayer for my son's cat, Stormy, who has urinary track problems. He's pretty sick, and the children will be upset if anything happens to him. Although he is a mixed breed, he looks just like a pure-bred Russian blue, and the breed is genetically predisposed to have the urinary problem.

UPDATE: I found a picture. That's a pretty accurate representation of the children, but the priest didn't look quite like the one in the pictures. Too treacly?

UPDATE 2: This is not a picture of Stormy, but it looks very like him.

  1. I love First Communions--so, so sweet.

Sorry to hear about Stormy. There seem to be so many ill pets about the internets these days. Prayers to St. Francis going up.

  2. Missy, they were cute. They walked down the aisle like little brides and grooms, a boy and a girl together, the girls with their white dresses and white veils and the boys in their blue blazers.

Poor Stormy. He's a beautiful cat and a really good pet. I hope that he'll be OK.

    How are you, Missy?

  3. Saying a prayer for both.

BTW, I haven't been here for a while, and it's nice to see your smiling face on the screen, Mimi. Not that I disliked the Jane Austen picture or anything (you know I'm a JA fan), but as you know, I like real pictures of bloggers. Thanks for yours.

  4. Tim! Welcome! It's good to have you visit again. I got tired of the portrait (not of Jane) and decided to go with a real picture of me, which I'll probably get tired of, too. But, I'm pretty much stuck with me, right?

    Thanks for the prayers.

  5. Well, Mimi, about the first communion picture....it would be hard to look like that priest, as I believe it is maybe a representation of our Lord? Hmmmm, how can that be?

Bless your grandson, and his Stormy. Hopefully, he will improve. Are they giving Stormy strong antibiotics?

  6. Susan, Stormy is at the vet's on an IV. I don't know what's in the IV. He has a blockage due to crystallization of his urine. This is the second time he has the problem, this time worse than the last.

  7. Blessings on your grandson on his special day!

My cats and I will say special prayers for Stormy. I'm sure he is a wonderful companion animal. We will hope and pray that the vet will be able to heal him with God's help. Keep us posted. Cats are so special. My four girls send their love.

  8. Whiteycat, people and cat prayers are much appreciated. Stormy is the exact opposite of his name. He's quiet and gentle, except when he and Wendy, the other cat, have their tussles.

  9. Mimi -- I had a wonderful British Blue look-alike who provided my late husband with SO much love and support as he (husband) went thru fighting cancer. Her name was Mere and she was magic. Best wishes for Stormy. And I bet Laika is willing to intercede as well despite being a dog, and all.

Oh -- and great good wishes for the First Communioners

  10. SusanKay, our pets can be of great comfort to us. What a lovely name, Mere. I know that Stormy and Wendy are helping my grandchildren get through the aftermath of the divorce. As soon as they get home from school, they each rush for a cat.

I'm sure that St. Laika is interceding for Stormy. My son got word today that he is improving, thanks be to God.

  11. It's good to read that he is improving!

  12. I prayed for Stormy at the Prayers of the People this morning. I figured his name is due to his stormy gray coat and not his disposition. Prayers that he will continue to improve are ongoing.

  13. Susan, Whiteycat, thank you. My son didn't hear from the vet today, but I believe he would have if Stormy's condition had worsened.

  14. I am sure having his Grandmère and Grandpère there made your grandson's First Communion even more special.

I have a friend whose cat had similar problems with crystals in the urinary tract and the cat was put on some type of daily medication that neutralized the urine and kept the crystals from forming. The cat lived an exceptionally long life and he eventually would simply lick the pill right out of her hand every morning at breakfast.

  15. Boocat, my grandson was too cute. They all were.

I know Stormy will be on a special diet, but I'll pass the word on to my son about the pill. He can ask the vet.
