Even as I resist and lament
Assorted aches and pains,
Energy reduced, senses diminished,
Failing memory,
World grown smaller,
Walls closing in
As the days and hours pass
In a life nearing the ninth decade,
I remember the many
Who never grow old,
Whose lives are cut off
By untimely deaths,
And I welcome the turning
Of the decade as a gift
Not given to everyone,
And bow my head in gratitude.

ReplyDeleteStill only 79. :-D
DeleteYou, dear Mimi, are a gift to many. Bless you for this thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tobias. Poetry as therapy, which is a first for me. My birthday is not till September but I've been thinking...
DeleteOh, untamed youth: in June my dad turns 94! ;-/
ReplyDeleteSeriously, Mimi, "blessings as your days increase"...
Thanks, JCF. Your dad is a marvel. Best wishes for a blessed Holy Week.
DeleteOh my beloved Mimi, you are such a gift. You live your life out loud and very generously so... This is beautiful. Love to you!
ReplyDeleteOh dear Fran, thank you. As you are always a gift to me. May you have a blessed Holy Week.
DeleteIndeed. You are a gift to many people, myself included. Thanks for this.
ReplyDeleteTim
Thank you, my dear friend, Tim. A blessed Holy Week to you.
DeleteBlessings for the day to you! (Use to be Blogging My Life Away!)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Fun and Thoughts. I'm not exactly blogging my life away at the moment, but the blog is handy for stuff I want to be more permanent than here-and-gone on Facebook and easier to find for reference purposes.
DeleteThat, knocks my soxs off! You are the cats meow! You make me howl with delight! What a gift you are to those of us who know our dearest Mimi online and not.! Mil gracias (can I use this at my blog?) Len/Leonardo
ReplyDeleteLen, thank you. Of course, you may use the poem on your blog. I'm honored that you ask.
DeleteLiving Christ, standing beside us and walking among us, be with June and richly bless her as she continues on her journey. Pour out your abounding grace and very gentle mercies upon her. Spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally replenish her with every breath she takes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking us all along on the amazing journey of your life.
Bonnie, many thanks for your lovely prayer, which is most welcome.
