Take the test.
I took a similar test a few years ago, and, although my result was still in the same quadrant, I was much closer to the center. It seems that I've been marked by the Bush years. The test is not a quickie six-question test.
Impressive. Very good result. I would say this, of course, because I came in very close to where you are: -7.38 on Economic Left/Right and -4.72 on Libertarian/Authoritarian.
ReplyDeleteLapin, we're in the company of Gandhi, Mandela, and the Dalai Lama. Not bad.

IT
Damn, IT, we are close. Twins separated at birth. Of course, I was the first-born.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that folks from such diverse backgrounds - I'm a child of the UK 40's & 50's Welfare State - can achieve such unity.
ReplyDeleteHaving grown up and lived in south Louisiana for nearly my whole life (but for a brief stint in south Alabama), my question is how did I come to be so west-coasty and English welfare statish libertarian-left?
ReplyDeleteHow indeed? Quite an achievement.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Mimi. It's quite remarkable. But I've heard it said that great minds think alike.

My score:
ReplyDeleteEconomic Left/Right: 1.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.21
Which I think overstated my "rightward" tendency. For instance, I answered that governments should not regulate corporations to protect the environment. (don't remember exactly how the question was framed). In true libertarian style, that a leftist answer masquerading as a rightist answer. Regulation doesn't work, not because regulation is inherently bad, but because the corporations inevitably gain control of the regulatory process, and the public ends up where it started, or worse off, while the regulators end up as an extension of the corporations they're supposed to regulate. But I suspect the test rated this answer as a simple "regulation=bad, business=good" answer.

That surprised me. I thought I was more conservative with economy.

I loved that! You, me, Lapinbizarre, Gandhi, Mandela, Dalai Lama, IT - brilliant!
It's getting a bit crowded in this quadrant.
ReplyDeleteIt's okay if it's crowded Mimi, it's just OUR KIND OF PEOPLE. ;-)

I ended up in the same quadrant, but a bit closer to the center.

ReplyDeleteLibertarian--8.77
This has been pretty consistent for a loooong time, as I noted at my place.

Jonhieb, you're way in the corner. You don't take up much space.
ReplyDeleteMimi -- Good grief! I match you exactly!
ReplyDeleteHeavens, SusanKay. Imagine! What are the chances?
ReplyDeleteok, I haven't done this yet, and I feel left out...
ReplyDeleteI'll be back later with answers.

I'm in the next tiny little square just above you Mimi and diagonally towards the centre. Clearly we think alike, but you are a touch more radical!
I'm somewhat close, too--

Since we're all here, let's have a party!
Nothing but a bunch of dirty fecking hippies is what we are, except for Kishnevi up there, who cleans us up a little.
ReplyDeleteHurry up, Paul! Let's have a party! Who's got the booze and whatcha got?

I was feeling way out there until I got to johnnieb and pj.
Hey, people, it's getting to where I can't breathe here in the green.
ReplyDeleteYou don't think I'm preaching to the choir on this blog, do you?
Rick, maybe the quiz folks judged Hitler by his deeds.
But would he agree or strongly disagree that there is now a worrying fusion of information and entertainment?
ReplyDeleteRick, since Hitler had a lock on both information and entertainment, I think we can assume that he would not have been worried about that.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I mean. How in the world do you answer this thing to get a "Hitler" reading? Since there were no giveaways like "I think the best way to deal with political opponents is to murder them."
ReplyDeleteRick, the tests are for FUN. At least, this test was not limited to 5 or 6 questions total. It could shed a tad more light, but its conclusions are most certainly nothing to order one's life by. You play and enjoy - or not.

Come on in to the green zone. No. Not that Green Zone!
ReplyDeleteWell, I am -7.38 on the Left/Right scale & -6.21 on the Libertarian/Authoritarian scale -- in the same quadrant as all but one of my Facebook friends who have added the application (one university student who plans to attend our Summer Program just barely crosses the line into Authoritarianism -- maybe I can get him to ease up while he is here) -- FWIW, my score is almost identical with Padre Mickey's -- Prior Aelred
ReplyDeleteHi Prior Aelred! Thanks for stopping in. Padre Mickey is good company, except he's a tad naughty at times - but then, you have your moments, too. ;o) Y'all gotta work that university student over while you have him in your clutches.

Wow. I knew I was liberal but I had no idea how much. If I go any further left I'll fall off the chart.
