Remember the story of Roger's newly adopted rescue pet, Becky? Roger, aka Lapinbizarre, told their story here on Wounded Bird in the middle of May.
Tonight I received this email from Roger:
Becky's persistent "kennel cough" - I decided a week or so back that it was too resistant to antibiotics to be this - turns out to be lung cancer. The vet thinks three to six months, poor little soul, tho treatment with steroids, etc., could extend it as far as two years. I'll speak to her at greater length later in the week. In the meantime, Becky is her usual busy self. Very sad.
I wrote back:
Roger, I am so sorry. What sad news. We lost Rusty to lymphoma at the age of 9, too soon. I'll pray for Becky, that she'll have good times in whatever days are left for her. I'll pray for you, too, Roger. I know that this tears at your heart. I'll post a prayer request if you like.
And so I have done.
Prayers for Becky and Roger. Partly answered in the care and love Roger has and will continue to give her
ReplyDeleteI join with what I can assume will be a full chorus of canine voices to offer prayers for Becky and Roger...
ReplyDeleteThanks for this, Mimi and Clumber. Becky is still in my bedroom closet, buried in and under the pile of dirty old shirts and Victorian dalmatics (I'm not making this up - told you ages ago about my "decor by Miss Havisham" thing) where she took refuge from last night's awful thunder storm (I now have THREE storm-phobic dogs. Three seems to be critical mass for general panic - one reason I was not happy when I last emailed you). I'll be waking her and rooting her out for her morning walk just as soon as I've posted this.
ReplyDeleteJudith of Dogs Hope, where I met Becky, has given me some interesting material - information which has worked for her in prolonging the life of dogs with cancer - on the cancer-delaying effects of flax-seed oil and turmeric. She forwarded an interesting piece on this use of turmeric posted six weeks ago by the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. We'll see how the therapy does for Becky.
Thanks also to Brian R. Sorry Brian, I'm still a bit drowsy this morning.
ReplyDeleteI'm adding my prayers for Becky.
ReplyDeleteOh, Lapin, I am so sorry. Maya Pavlova and I send our prayers and purrs to you and Becky.
ReplyDelete(((Becky and Roger)))
ReplyDeletePrayers and love and prayers!
Prayers for Becky and Lapin from CA.
ReplyDeleteoh, I am so sorry!!! I am praying here for Becky and Roger.
ReplyDeleteOh Lapin. I'm so sorry. Prayers for you and Becky.
ReplyDeleteI am a couple of days late, but prayers for you Roger and for Becky from me and my four felines.
ReplyDeleteI am late seeing this. This is sad. Many prayers for her. She looks like a really sweet girl.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your much appreciated prayers and posts. A sad thing about this is that she is still recovering from the obvious disabilities - lack of mobility, exhaustion, etc - that led to her last owner's dumping her, so that superficially her health and strength are visibly improving, and all the while this mess is progressing beneath the surface.
ReplyDeleteShe's turned out to be a very sweet, attentive dog, though, so I'm doing what I can to make her life enjoyable at this point. She's getting ready to "help" me make plum chutney!
I am late hearing about this, but Roger and Becky have been added to the prayer list. Becky landed exactly where she needed to be when she needed to be there. Funny how that works out. I realize it will be tough on you, Roger, so I'll add extra prayers about that.
