Jim Burroway at Box turtle Bulletin reports that David Kato Kisuule, LGTB activist in Uganda, was murdered.
David Kato was a spokesperson for Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) and one of the plaintiffs (or applicants) in the successful lawsuit seeking a permanent injunction against the Ugandan tabloid Rolling Stone (no relation to the U.S. publication of the same name). Kato was one of three applicants who had been named by the tabloid under a headline tagged “Hang Them!”
Few details are available a this time.

ReplyDeleteI second JCF's comments. The right wing Americans who've driven and financed this pogrom are guilty of Kato's murder.
I would not want to first conclude that Kato was killed because he was promoting gay rights. We have witnessed a number of murders in Uganda recently, some being child/human sacrifices (which are very rampant), iron bar hit men (who waylay their victims and pounce on them in order to steal property), crimes of passion (in the case of a one Army General killed by a concubine) and many others. I want to wait for the police investigation and it will inform us of the course of his death.

The credibility of the local police is an open question. We know who signs their paychecks.
ReplyDeleteDo people really imagine that they can relentlessly demonize a group of people from pulpits and in parliament, that they can publish a list of names with a photo of David Kato under the headline "Hang Them!" and there would be no consequences?
