LITTLE KNOWN QUOTES FROM THE FOUNDING FATHERS

Check out David Atkins at Hullabaloo. Here's one:

James Madison:
There is an evil which ought to be guarded against in the indefinite accumulation of property from the capacity of holding it in perpetuity by … corporations. The power of all corporations ought to be limited in this respect. The growing wealth acquired by them never fails to be a source of abuses."
There's more, much more at the link. Someone tell the Supremes!

  1. In the quotes at Hullabaloo, the Founding Fathers sound like a bunch of damn commies.

  2. Interesting thought, and I see his point. But then, on what day and at what hour would you say to General Motors or General Electric, "Okay boys, you had your fun but now the show's over, pack it up" --? I mean, how would that work out, really?

  3. Russ, I didn't say it was practical, especially after the industrial revolution. I'm reminded of the year of Jubilee in the Hebrew Testament. The point is that you never hear those quotes from the folks who shout the loudest about about FREEEDOM.

  4. Off-topic---

Not to harp on Louisiana . . . but when I saw this story, Mimi, I thought of your fair State: http://www.au.org/blogs/wall-of-separation/louisiana-revelation-school-voucher-funding-it-s-not-just-for-christians

Oy vey! (Yep, Rep. Hodges, a Jewish school would be covered, too. ;-X)

  5. JCF, when the Louisiana legislature is in session, you can be certain mischief will result. You'd think they'd know that funding for vouchers cannot be used in a discriminatory way, or the law will be declared unconstitutional...which is what I hope happens, for one reason or another.

Where to begin? Hodges’ bigotry is perhaps only rivaled by her ignorance of constitutional and legal principles. Of course Muslim schools will qualify for funding under a voucher plan. When programs like this are set up that dole out benefits to religious schools, the government can’t play favorites. That’s basic.

    Says it all.

The public schools must meet standards, but there are no standards for the private schools. All too many of the legislators do not know what they're doing.
