FOR THE UNBELIEVING

  1. From the algal bloom to the No Bikini Atoll... the effects on the ocean are as great as on the underwear!

(How many remember Beanie and Cecil?)

    1. I don't remember Beanie and Cecil. I believe my kids and I were either pre-Beanie and Cecil or between their shows. Maybe my children remember them from reruns. I'll ask.

    2. There was an older puppet version I never saw. I was devoted to the cartoon version, which began in 1959. I also misremembered the spelling; it's Beany with a Y.

The show was full of bad puns and slightly off-color jokes. For some reason, their journey through the No Bikini Atoll stuck in my mind... ;-)

This likely explains a great deal. Between that, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and broadcasts of the Goon Show, my humor was well settled towards mad satire from early days...

    3. So you are what you are because of mad cartoons. I remember Sylvester and Tweety Bird and Mr Magoo as two of my favorites. I adored Mr Magoo.

    4. I loved all the Warner Bros. cartoons, and was a big Magoo fan, too. I still find the Magoo Christmas Carol to be one of the most affecting, and enjoyed the lyrics: A hand for each hand was made for the world, why don't my fingers reach? Very touching, and not so mad after all!

    5. Yes, I'd like to watch the Magoo Christmas Carol again. I'll check to see if Netflix has it and (Gasp!) watch it in the wrong season.

  2. What? There was a cartoon version years after the real one?
(You mean Paul was with another band before Wings? -- alleged to be a genuine reaction)

Pretty sure there was nothing off-color in the 1950 version; but ok, would I have caught on if there were? Anyway, enough bad puns.

BTW, you know who did the voices and much of the writing for that show? See answer below.

Back on topic: If this is the result of global warming, does it mean they made ladies' garments out of shrink-wrap way back then?

Nothing but asking questions in this. So--

    Stan Freberg.

    1. I know that Stan Freberg was the voice of many.

Porlock, about the garments, I'm old, but not that old. ;-)
