From MadPriest...

OCICBW... got attacked by a particularly vicious troll last night. It was so bad I had to close down the comments overnight.

He seems to have got his revenge by reporting me as a spam blog to Blogger and they have blocked my blog. I have asked for reinstatement but it's taking up to a week to sort out at the moment.

Would you please notify people of this on your blog and tell them to put it on their blogs. I don't want them thinking I've done a runner or been disappeared by the Church Police.

Jonathan

UPDATE: To all bloggers: the best way to help is to copy Jonathan's email and post it on your own blog.

UPDATE 2: A good laugh is always in order. Padre Mickey posted the same email, but he added a picture with a caption that is priceless.

  1. I can now reach OCICBW. I hopeeveryhting is okay!

  2. Then maybe they have the troll's address and can proceed against him or her?

  3. I put up a post at "Off-Topic," hope it helps to spread the word.

  4. Lapin, never thought of that...that would be a fitting ending to this caper.

  5. Well that didn't seem to last long. Everything seems back in working order right now.

  6. There are no new posts up at OCICBW since last night. I emailed Jonathan to see if he was back in business. I haven't heard back yet.

  7. I suspect there are no new posts because he can't post. We could switch to OCICBOV if someone will give him posting privileges. Or OCICBINY.

There are many complaints from people who have had their blogs frozen for no good reason. Google seems to have an auto-freeze with no human checking the complaints. That should be fixed. Or we should all go to another blog host?

  8. Oh ... I see. We're not blocked. Jonathan is.

That stinks, particularly since it was initiated by a nasty troll.

  9. MadPriest probably can't post or comment anywhere on Blogger at this time.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Of for heaven's sake!

Thanks for letting us know, Mimi. I'm assuming MP can't comment anywhere either?

    Effing trolls....

  11. Mimi,

Can I post a copy of Fr. Jon's note on my blog?

    I have been the target of a troll or two and finally set moderation on so that I can simply kill the posts in advance. ;;sigh;;

  12. Jim, of course. He want us to do that. See the final paragraph in the post.

  13. MadPriest sent me an email saying that he is not back in business. You can leave comments, but he cannot post.

  14. This is ridiculous!
The troll was appalling and there should be an easy way of showing the blog police why any individual report may be malicious.

since comments are still enabled on OCICBW, should we copy Jonathan's message as a comment to his last post?

  16. Erika, I don't know. He didn't ask me to do that. I don't want to risk making more trouble for him. I presume that he's pretty busy now, so I don't want to bother him with too many emails, either.

  17. I just looked in the Blogger Help Forum. Apparently a number of blogs have been blocked.

    http://groups.google.com/group/blogger-help

I think that URL will take you to the page.

  18. Mike, it appears that no one is home at Blogger to help unjustly blocked bloggers.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, and I suspect that for each of the ones who have found that help blog and written about it there are several more in the same predicament.

the troll is still posting on the comments section. Not sure what to do, but before unmoderated war breaks out because no-one knows what's happening, maybe post a link to your blog post?

    ReplyDelete
  21. It is interesting. The troll made some posts at OCICBW this morning, but someone has removed them.

Someone seems to have access, even if not MP.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It would be nice if Blogger had an understandable mechanism for us all to report the troll. I have been cruising the help pages with not much guidance...

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't want to link to my blog at OCICBW right now, unless it's absolutely necessary, out of concern that I will attract the troll's attention and have him come over here.

Erika, I sent you an email, but my suggestion may not be necessary. Perhaps MP can still delete comments - or someone can.

    ReplyDelete
  24. MP sent me an email. He can post comments and delete comments. He cannot edit or add any new articles.

    ReplyDelete
  25. David, thanks. I thought that might be the case.

Please, do not link to this post in the comments at OCICBW.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I will not Abuela. I know that you do not want said menace to find you.

    "Bwakk,
    bwuakk, buwakk, buwakk"

  27. David, I meant the last part of my comment not just for you, but for everyone.

  28. I sent MP an offer of posting privileges at the vacation blog and will set him up as an administrator if he accepts. He sent me an email saying he would think about it. He's kind of upset by the whole thing and a bit turned off by blogging in general right now I would suppose.

  29. Dennis, this mess causes me to rethink the whole blogging thing and wonder if it's worth it to put myself "out there" in all my vulnerability. But then, I think of all the great people that I've met through blogging, both in real and virtual life, and that gives me pause about giving it up.

  30. by the way, Mimi, last night I was carrying my cellphone in a box with a bunch of crap and it somehow decided to make a phone call. It must have bumped the screen and I hadn't locked it.

I heard it dialing and reached in and turned it off. If you wondered who made the call a little after 10 your time was it was my damned phone.

    Sorry about that!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes, Dennis, on the house phone. The call came from Silverdale, WA, and I thought of dialing back, but I decided that it wasn't you, without checking the number. But it was! But you didn't want to talk to me anyway, so I did the right thing.

  32. Mimi, I just copied your post and posted it on the Chronicles, including links back to you, and the one to Padre Mickey's.

At first I'd linked to OCICBW, and then I read the comments here, and went back and edited and undid that link. No trolls have ever been worried about me, I don't get the traffic you all do; so unless someone tracks you back from Mickey's via me, it should be okay. Sorry, though -- I should have read everything there first.

  33. Oh this is rich! From Faux News, of course.

Anti-Obama Bloggers Question Why Google Froze Their Accounts

I'm thinking that MPs blog is just one of the hundreds if not thousands that were blocked last night by an automated system gone wrong. OCICBW.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Kate, thanks.

Mike, the blocking of the anti-Obama bloggers is easily explained. Gawd don't like that.

Blogger has a mess on their hands. They're going to be hemorrhaging.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mimi, I almost linked back here as a courtesy for the source - I'm glad I didn't - must have been a lucky bit of women's intuition. I thought a minute about what you posted here about temporarily removing our link to OCICBW, and then did it. I'm not concerned about his infamous troll visiting (OTA is small-time), but blocking pathways makes sense. Less traffic his way will probably be of benefit. If I hear otherwise, it goes right back up.

Thanks for facilitating the conversation on this today. I scanned my blog roll at just the right moment. Quite a way to end the week in blog-land!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Lynn, thank you. Soon after I wrote that, I realized that I had left a comment at OCICBW. All anyone has to do is click on my name, and that brings them right to my blog. After that, I quit worrying. What will be, will be.

  37. Mimi -- I can not reach you on internet explorer but firefox is still ok

    ReplyDelete
  38. What can I say, SusanKay? I tell everyone to use Firefox. I don't like Explorer.
