OH DEAR!

  1. Mine comes down easy - it's a ceramic tree! :-)

  2. Sigh, I suppose so. But I am throwing one last party of the season tomorrow evening and not until after that.

  3. Tomorrow, tomorrow.

...but yesterday, at our Cathedral's bookshop (I went there to get an Ordo calendar: it's on order), I got the most ADORABLE Labrador-covered (Aw!) Advent calendar at the half-off table! Already can't wait for next year! :-)

  4. My wee tree stays decorated all year round. I cover it and move it to a closet upstairs.

Paul, that's fine. You have till the weekend.

JCF, now is the time to shop for next Christmas, with all the Christmas stuff on sale. I bought the pretty red brocade tablecloth that my tree stands on several years ago for 75% off.

  5. Yes, this is when my mother traditionally took our tree down too. I suppose at least I'll have to get mine down this weekend. :-(

  6. Not sure I should admit this but I don't have to make a lot of effort to take the tree down this year because I never put one up to start with.

The downstairs neighbour made up for my lack of festive effort by mounting a wreath on our outside door that was so gargantuan I nearly put my eye out on it every time I tried to get in the door. It was like wrestling with a jungle.

  7. Mauigirl, just so you get it done by the weekend. Of course, there's no enforcement process if you don't.

Cathy, but for my grandchildren, I might not put up a tree.

  8. I have in previous years but I don't like artificial trees and the pine ones shed needles that I have been left vaccuuming up till the next September. I did think I should make the effort but then I just didn't. I should do some sort of mini-tree, I suppose.

I did get the impression this had been a subdued Christmas for quite a lot of people. There weren't so many decorations up round the neighbourhood. The economic climate, I guess :(

  9. Cathy, I don't like artificial trees, either, but my sparse little tree won my heart.

The last year we had a real tree, before we were forbidden to burn trash in our town, Tom set the tree on fire after we took it down, and it literally exploded, as though he had drenched the tree in kerosene, which he had not. That made me think about if the tree had caught fire in the house, and I began to use artificial trees.

The trees here are cut so early that by the time Christmas is over, most are quite dried out and have turned into a fire hazards.
