We have turned another corner in Iraq. The number of deaths from the war has now passed 3500, standing at 3503, with 26 dead so far in the 7 days of the month of June.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
Heavenly Father, pour out your healing love in abundance upon the families and friends of those who have died and upon the wounded and their families and friends. Heal them in spirit, soul and body. Give them strength and courage to go forward, and above all, O Lord God, give them your peace that passes understanding to keep their minds and hearts.
UPDATE: In the words of Willy Loman's wife, Linda, "So attention must be paid."
Thank you, Mimi,
ReplyDeleteyou know I still need it; on or off topic, I'm not sure, but you'd tell me if I was acting too crazy, wouldn't you, here or elsewhere we meet?
The Peace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and the power and comfort of God's present Word be ours, now and forever.
Johnieb, on or off topic doesn't matter. If you post a comment that's beyond the pale, it will disappear forever. That's how you'll know.
ReplyDeletePeace to you.
GM, it makes me want to ask our leaders another great A. Miller line,
ReplyDelete"Don't you live in the world????" Every night when the NewsHour ends with its silent tribute to the fallen, I think, as each picture appears for a few seconds, of all the possibilities snuffed out, so many connections to the future broken... and for what?
Watching the faces on Newshour is close to unbearable, but it's important that it's is there. We must take note.
ReplyDeleteThe New York times has a series of five diaries written by troops who have returned from serving in Iraq. It's hidden behind "TimesSelect", which I think is deplorable. Everyone should have a chance to read the accounts. These are the ones who survived, some broken in body, all deeply affected in spirit.
I don't pay for "TimesSelect". My husband is retired from a university and still has an email address there, so we get it free. The NYT finally opened the service to educators.
Thank you, Grandmere; yer a peach. My worry was over ta MP's.
ReplyDeleteJohnieb, I don't dare speak for MP or for what's appropriate at his place.
ReplyDeleteExactly how many corners have been turned by now? We must be going in circles.
ReplyDeleteThank you for allows putting this back into the context of prayer, Mimi. I can spin off so easily into my righteous indignation, but you draw me back to the One whose heart is far more broken open than any of ours.
ReplyDeletePadre Mickey, we seem to find disaster around every corner.
ReplyDeleteOur help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
LJ, yes. But we still must do what we can do, which we did when we elected Democrats, but they do not seem to have heard our message.
Thank you, Mimi, for keeping this before us so eloquently.
ReplyDeleteMark, I try to remember to note the turning of the thousand marks.
ReplyDeleteWhat's poignant to me with this post is that it's the first time I had noted the number who died by their own hands. So sad, so sad.
