Quote Of The Day - Louisiana Legislature

From NoLevity:

"I'm so happy to hear that you are funding the primate center.
For those that are term-limited, it'll probably be our future home
after we leave here this session."

-- Rep. Warren Triche, D-Thibodaux, referring to money earmarked
in a spending bill for a primate center at Tulane University.

Those of us in still the Anglican Communion could add, "Depends upon what you mean by primate."

I love this from NoLevity's side bar:

  1. Are there really term limits on Louisiana legislators, or just for Democrats?

  2. No, Lapin, there really are term limits. Warren is not pleased that he can't run again.

  3. I have long thought that term limits are the wrong solution to what is sometimes a real problem.

  4. Allen, I agree that term limits are not a good solution, especially for state legislatures, Most state legislative positions are not full-time jobs, so the legislators remain in touch with the people they serve.

But I'm torn about the US Congress, because by spending long periods of time in DC, one tends to take on the DC culture, which is a whole other country from the rest of the US. They can become insulated and out of touch with the real world.

On the other hand, it takes a while to learn the way around and absorb the intricacies of the issues, so in that sense experience is valuable.
