I am roaring with laughter... at the headline and at Dennis' comment.
For the record, it is one of my favorite movies. As a little Catholic kid seeing it in the early 60's when it came out, in a giant movie theatre, I was transformed.
Nuns! Nazis! Bride! Bravery!
And clothes, clothes made out of old curtains.
Anyway I actually visited the monastery when I was in Salzburg.
BTW one day I must write a post and if I can find the photos, scan them and include, of when my friends and I went to "Sing Along Sound of Music" in November 2000 in Greenwich Village in NYC.
I will say in advance, my curtain clothing fetish was put into action and we did win second prize...
Harlan Ellison tells the story of being with Dan Blocker when a fan accosted him. She treated him like his TV character, "Hoss" Cartwright, and he couldn't convince her that was a fictional family.
Oddly enough, was reading about the mother of the newly-deceased Von Trapp just last week. She was the heiress of a man from Bolton, Lancashire, of all places, who invented the self-propelled torpedo
One more of life's philanthropists.
Did you know that the Von Trapps left Austria by rail, not by "climbing every mountain".
Julie Andrews wasn't the ACTUAL Maria von Trapp?

ps Thanks to your post I have been sitting at the reference desk singing "Lonely Goatherd" to myself for the past 30 minutes. I do not need this!
ReplyDeleteAh...newspaper editors: a breed apart - but, sadly, not far enough apart!
ReplyDeleteD.P.
Oh, I do love my comments.
ReplyDeleteFran, I can't wait to see your pictures.
Rmj, Hoss was Hoss. I don't care what Dan Blocker said.
Lapin, must you destroy all my fantasies? I hope you hum "Goatherd" all day.
