A Word For The Day

Though the fig tree does not blossom,
and no fruit is on the vines;
though the produce of the olive fails
and the fields yield no food;
though the flock is cut off from the fold
and there is no herd in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
I will exult in the God of my salvation.

Habakkuk 3:17-18

Habakkuk gives a good reminder today, on the Thursday after Ash Wednesday, that God is still Emmanuel, no matter what. My distress is not mainly about the car, or the near-missed plane, or the delayed suitcases, or exhaustion. It's about things I can't talk about in a public venue such as a blog. None of it is life-threatening, and the problems, too, shall pass, but a few prayers for the matters of which I cannot speak would not be at all unwelcome, my good readers. Thank you.

  1. Prayers headed your way, Grandmere. I missed you. I kept checking in, wondering "is she back yet?" :)

    I, too, have many things unspoken which can't be discussed in blogland, and understand your need for prayers. Hoping for you that all will be well.

    The passage from Habukkuk reminds me of my friend who does much work with the homeless in his city, who he says often pray "for those who have less than they do." A needed reminder today.

    Blessings to you and yours, Grandmere.

  8. Grandmere, I went walkabout today (via a bus trip) in New York City, visited the Old (ie original) Saint Patrick's Cathedral in Little Italy, and lit a candle (In addition to my family prayers) in your honour. Well actually it was one of those electric candles that burns for X hours ... but the intention was the same. God bless you!

  9. RR, thank you for the prayers and the lighted candle - even if it was electric. (What's the world coming to?) God knows that you were sending his light my way. I feel better already. God is good.

    Hope things are better today, Mimi.

    BTW, I'm with you about not being big on Disney World/Land. Maybe it's because by parents used to live in Newport Beach, CA, about 20 minutes from Disneyland, and I just burned out on it.

  12. Eileen and Mike, thank you, my friends. Today is a new day. Each new day is a small resurrection if we allow hope for better times to come into our minds and hearts. Thanks be to God.

  13. Dear GM,
    You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Welcome home -- even if the fig tree looks bear, and the vines seem fruitless... Easter is coming.

  14. Dear Mimi, how are you today? I'm thinking you on this Friday across the miles. (((Mimi))) And I send prayers of course. May Christ the Healer lighten your heart, and may you share with the Holy One those things you cannot share with anyone else.
