Congratulations President-Elect Barack Obama!

If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer. Barack Obama

What a great night! What a speech! What a great gift of hope!

The whole world was watching, and we did it. We can raise our heads and be proud of our president once again. President-elect Obama ran a masterful campaign. My hope is that his presidency will be as successful, that he will use those same gifts that brought him to the presidency to turn our country around to head in the right direction toward a fairer and more just society.

YES, WE DID!

I think McCains speach was good too! Not the least Change, in my opinion...

  10. A wonderful day! But my dear - that dress!?

  11. I agree about the dress!

If the McCain who spoke last night were the McCain who ran for president, would the result have been different?

Finally we can pray for a Supreme Court justice or two who value all Americans.

  12. Hey, I like the dress! And the kids get a puppy to take with them. I wish it were all going to be so easy...

  13. No celebration here. Yes, I am pleased he won, in a detached way. Obviously.

But the arc of justice has just evaporated as far as I'm concerned and religious bigotry reigns supreme in the state of California.

And President-elect Obama's own words were used to make that happens.

It's as though the electorate said, "Yes we can, but no, YOU can't."

  14. In my channel surfing last night, I came across the PBS Charlie Rose show where I heard a great line from Bernard-Henri Levi:

Rosa Parks sat, Martin Luther King walked, Barack Obama ran, and America flies.

    That's when my tears started.

  15. I'm with you, IT.

I'm glad the Republicans were repudiated quite soundly. Barack Obama was clearly the better choice.

But I will not forget that Barack Obama has said that it is his religion that prevents him from promoting equal treatment under the law to GLBT American citizens. Because of that I cannot share in the elation so many others have today.

  16. IT, it's coming, it's coming. I know it's coming. We must not give up hope. We must not give up the fight.

  17. I agree that it was craven for Obama to oppose gay marriage. No doubt, it was done for political expediency, but I'm still greatly relieved, and yes, happy, that Obama was elected. Consider the alternative.
