"From One Great Man To Another"

Lifted in it's entirety from Father David Heron:

Statement on Obama Victory by Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu:

“It’s an epoch-making event filling the whole world with hope that change is possible. It is just tremendous; it is saying to people of colour that for them, the sky is the limit.

“We have a new spring in our walk and our shoulders are straighter. It is almost as when Nelson Mandela became President of South Africa in 1994.

Obama is not there yet, in my humble opinion, but I pray he makes it to greatness.

  2. We had the singular joy of having +Tutu speak at our parish one evening about a year ago. He's even more of an inspiration & delight in person.

There are a few people in this world who, I swear, must be angels in disguise - and this man is surely one of them.

  3. PJ, we will, we will. We'll help him. Yes, we can!

David, lucky you. +Tutu glows right through the TV.

  4. I just pray that the country is patient. He has a tough job ahead with difficult decisions to make. Some of the decisions may be painful to our country in the short-run and we have history of short attention spans. You can't undo all the damage overnight and we(mostly the people of privilege) are going to have to make some sacrifices. If he surrounds himself with men and women of wisdom and we, as a nation, are patient, I think he will become a great leader. But I agree, right now he just looks and sounds like a great leader, I'm excited to see what happens.

  5. I agree with what Sara said.

And I'm in tears over the Tutu quote.

  6. Sara, you're right. With the country in such a sorry state, things cannot be turned around overnight. He'll need to choose his priorities, and he won't satisfy everyone. I hope the people will give him a chance and the press don't immediately go after him like jackals. They gave Bush an easy ride for a long time.

I'm so thankful that I can be proud of my president once again. I tear up when I think about it.

  9. I'd like to campaign for sainthood for Desmond Tutu, and I'd like it to happen now, while he's still around to enjoy it. And to spread his joy, like he does like no other.

He's got it right, too. The whole world rejoices and has hope that the US can become a nation of peace. Oh please let that be so.

  10. TheJanet, many of us already know that he is a living saint. The official stamp doesn't matter all that much. We know, and God knows. His joy is positively contagious.
