So. I chewed out one of the servicemen who are working on restoring our power. He was giving me a load of BS. Entergy has a bad reputation for not maintaining their equipment and for ill-serving their customers. A company with a reputation like that coaches their employees from the top to the bottom how to shift responsibility. When I told the serviceman that our electrician said that the transformer was not big enough to power our house, he asked the name of the electrician and then smiled and shook his head when I told him the name. He's one of the best in town. I suspect that the Entergy folks don't like him because he calls them on their crap. When I proceeded to tell him what my microwave was doing, he said something was probably wrong with the microwave. I said, "Wait! It's my stove, my TV, the lights, and the heating system, too. Are they all faulty?" That was no.2 load of BS buck-passing, so I let him have it. When I was done, I said, "Whatever it takes, I want to be back in business. We are old, and we are cold."
He backtracked and said he didn't say anything about the electrician, so I shouldn't quote him. Nothing to quote, is there? But a smile and a shake of the head is a message, isn't it? Then he said that he really didn't say that my microwave was the problem. Whatever. I apologized to him later and said that I really wanted to chew out the CEO of the company. Still, he BSed me twice, and that pissed me off.
GP just popped in to tell me that the servicemen found another problem at the box, that something was overheated and melting. Why didn't they find that earlier? Our power is completely off now, and our neighbor, who cut our line, is without power while they work on it. That's a little sweet justice. He runs a business out of his house, which he's not supposed to do, so I suppose that smarts a little. Now you see what I'm really like. Chewing out the working people and Schadenfreude all the way.
So sorry to read about your power problems, hope they sort them out soon!! Ask MP to give you a dragon reference, they'll work twice as fast.
ReplyDeleteYou go Grand'mère!
ReplyDelete(((((((Mimi)))))))))
ReplyDeleteMay the power come back with you..PRONTO...inspite of blithering idiocy and incompetence.
Goes to hide behind Grandpere...
We've read here in the newspapers about a Swedish electrician who worked for a while in the US. He said that the US system was malfunctioning and often broke down (this was a while ago when you had big black outs and there was talk of possible sabotage).
ReplyDeleteElectricians here have high qualifications and a priviledged position.
But it works as long as there are no winter storms in the forests... (the trees stand to close and often take the lines down...)
Mimi -- I had wondered about snow for you when I heard that stepson in Houston had got it yesterday.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the neighbor -- we have his cousin next door up in Colorado. While we were off at alternate home in Albuquerque (and brunching with Paul the BB!) OUR charmer let burning trash get out of hand and burned about 10 acres of meadow, blackening a few ponderosa pines. It got to within a foot of our house so I guess we are damn lucky but it would have been nice had he 1)let us know about it and/or 2)apologized. Grumph!!!
And I am supposed to LOVE this twit? Oh, yeah -- I am. Rats!
Sorry to hear about the cold weather and the power loss. Hope it's up and running soon, and you have all the warmth and power you need. Much love,
ReplyDeleteT
Now you see what I'm really like. Chewing out the working people and Schadenfreude all the way.
ReplyDeleteMimi, we wouldn't have you any other way...
I'd have more patience if we were in a crisis with load of folks with outages, but that's not the case. And it was the BS from the serviceman.
ReplyDeleteGöran, the workers who came from around the country to help restore power after Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav were highly critical of Entergy's maintenance - or lack thereof.
Susankay, ai-yai-yai!
Thanks for the good wishes, all.
My mother has had the same kind of issues in LA. Service people seem to equate older with gullible. Bad mistake. People only underestimate her once.
ReplyDeleteI echo what Doxy said!
Been thinking of you ever since I saw the news film of snow in New Orleans this morning. So sorry it is affecting you in such a maddening way so you can't even relax and enjoy the novelty of it all. I can really sympathize, as we also have a fragile electrical supply; something not right at the transformer, so our little row of four or five houses often loses power during windy storms while the rest of the neighborhood is fine.
ReplyDeleteI'm on your side, Mimi; you should stick up for yourself against the intimidation and BS and let the company representative know you are not buying it.
Sending warm thoughts your way.
Very interesting how your 'puter kept working. LOL
ReplyDeleteJust curious, when was the last time you had this kind of weather (pondering climate change again here this evening).
You Go Girl!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteScott, the Snide, I was on wireless, sometimes plugged in and sometimes on battery. The last time we had snow was about 7 or 8 years ago, on Christmas Day, and it was a pretty good one. We had a whitish, if not a white Christmas. I have pictures, which I will post day.
ReplyDeleteAiredale, thanks.
We all gots to vent sometimes. You handle hurricanes with such grace I see no reason for you to put up with bull-flinging hired help too. A girl can only take so much.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
grandmere,
ReplyDeleteWhen I stop laughing I'll say that I look forward to the pics. (People often wonder about my first initial in my signature; few have guessed it as closely as your own dear self.)
:)
BS makes me mad too.
ReplyDeleteHope the power is back soon.
A girl can only take so much
ReplyDeleteThank, you, thank you, thank you, Paul. My sentiments, exactly.
BS ticks me off majorly.
Mimi, you'd make a great New Yorker.
ReplyDeleteCounterlight, thank you. I have not been around in Blogland today, so I don't know what's happening.
ReplyDeleteGrandmere Mimi -- You should consider moving to a state that has no rain, no snow, no water, no ice and about a ton of tule fog. Move on out here. We'll keep the light on for you.
ReplyDeleteOh, Mimi, I love you SO much. (((Mimi))) [Warm, cozy, down-filled hugs]
ReplyDeleteYou just channel me sometimes, Grrlfriend! [Yay, Schadenfreude! It's not like we can't go repent of it tomorrow, right? ;-)]
Wishing you seasonable Louisiana weather, and Lots o' POWER!
JCF, in da Frozen North (Michigan)
I think it's called righteous indignation.
ReplyDeleteWhat would I do without my virtual friends to back me up in my wickedness? Of course, some of you are real life friends now, too.
ReplyDeleteFred, where is that place of which you speak?
DP, you stirred up a little shit storm over at your place didn't you?
Hi, Mimi .... Sorry about your electrical problems. We got cold over here too. We even had a bit of sleet the other night. But fortunately the temp didn't drop below freezing, and the sleet melted as soon as it hit the ground.
ReplyDeleteYour electrical people remind me of the ATT people when we moved into the new house. It took 4 people and 3 entire days for them to find the conduit running below the driveway so they could finish installing our phone lines.
Of course, I had shown them exactly where to dig. They started where I showed them, I pointed out the 3 separate pipes, and they told me they were rocks. I then took them to an empty lot where conduit is still exposed to show them it is in exactly the same place as in my driveway. They then proceeded to dig up about 15 more feet of lawn before deciding they had to come back another day to install their own conduit.
Finally, the 4th guy on the 3rd day listened to me, dug where I had shown the 1st guy, and found the conduit within 2 minutes.
DP, you stirred up a little shit storm over at your place didn't you?
ReplyDeleteYes and I'm not sure how it happened. On this occasion it wasn't the intntion! I just don't understand people, clearly - or they don't understand me.
Mike, that is so typical, that I could have told the story myself, or one very much like it.
ReplyDeleteI just don't understand people....
DP, I hope you understand me. After all, I am one of your groupies.
