Nothing To See

Last night on Countdown, Olbermann and Howard Fineman were discussing Bush's horrible presidency in general and, at the end, his inability to second guess himself and the lack of any capacity for introspection. They agreed that Bush was incapable of either. Olbermann's final words on the matter were, "If there's nothing to see, then there's no reason to look inside your soul.

Amen.

  1. I thought of Hamlet, forcing his mother to look in the mirror.

I wondered if Bush would even see a reflection?

  2. Rmj, are you implying that Shrub is a Vampire?

  3. Democrats successfully ran against Herbert Hoover for 20 years after he left office. Dubya may play the same role.

In all fairness to Hoover, he may have been a bad president, but he was not a bad man. He was responsible for much of the reconstruction in Europe after the First Word War, and played a role in ending Germany's crippling inflation. He took the blame after a young hothead general named Douglas MacArthur used force to break up and evict the Bonus Marchers from Washington DC in 1932.
He also wrote translations of ancient Roman agricultural and scientific texts.

I doubt we will be able to say the same for Dubya. That this man got as far as he did sliding through life on money and connections does not speak well for our country these days.

  4. I believe that Bush has a serious personality disorder. It's quite troubling to me that he could get elected, not once, but twice. I still remember, "He's someone I'd like to have a beer with," which drove me wild when I'd hear it. Why would that be a criterion to consider in making a choice for president? Besides, he's one of the last people that I'd ever want to have a beer with.

  5. Dubya is the American "Upper Class Twit"; money and social connections not only got him everything, it prevented him from becoming human.

  6. ...it prevented him from becoming human.

Johnieb, folks mean well when they make the way easy, clear away obstacles, and repeadedly help others out of their scrapes, but they actually do them a great injustice.

  7. I just saw the movie 'Crawford' on hulu.com, a documentary about what happened after Bush moved onto the 'ranch.' Very emotionally charged... I recommend it. Just look in the movies section. It actually premiered on hulu.

  9. Yes, renzmqt,

Forgive my weak attempt at levity.

I agree with you on all points. I read 'Shrub,' by the sainted Molly Ivins. That is where I learned all about the value of Daddy's friends and the many bailouts Bushy received from them. That's why, I think, that he had no idea what to do about anything and always depends on others to clean up the mess.

  10. Wow, what a great conversation.

Over eight years I have gone from a fan (I've prayed for forgiveness) to someone who would walk unbidden to the other side of the street if Shrub approached. By his damned war, he almost wrecked my marriage, destroyed countless families, left tons of vets uncared for, and doesn't give a whatever. And I don't think he would even ask for forgiveness for himself. He's convinced that God is totally bound up with him.

  11. Lauralew, I am so sorry. I doubt that Bush even thinks he's done anything wrong. There's something very wrong there.

  12. Renz, would any of us be here if we weren't more than a little neurotic? :-) See my wink?

  13. Of course you can't see my wink, cause I had a typo! I try once again= ;-) There, is that better?
