What, Badger? You've never been Rick Rolled? He's a singer from the 80s or 90s... when was disco popular? And it's a YouTube thing that's been going around for a while. That song is inserted into another event... like Obama's McCain's acceptance speeches at the conventions. Just search on YouTube for Rick Rolled. Lots of stuff shows up.
No - I click, wait for two minutes while it spins, then I get "Hey boys and-" then it spins for another two minutes and I get "girls..." then I wait for two minutes and go to another blog!
I'm not sure if this will work on dial-up, but it sounds like you have a similar experience to mine (working with an incredibly slow server). What I do is click it, go do something else, and when it's completely run through the first time, you can just replay it and it runs normally.
Rick Astley - who's "never gonna give you up" - was largely a one-hit wonder in 1987 with that song as part of the electronic dance music of that time. It's referenced in "Family Guy" in a Back To The Future spoof in which Brian plays and sings the song around the mid-eighties, prefacing it with "Here's a song by a gay guy" (Astley isn't, as far as I know).
Thank's Susan. I watched it again and finally put the words together with the face. "May your family help you to shine."
I guess I live too sheltered a life, I've never been Rick rolled. Then again, I hardly watch TV and have never seen an episode of Family Guy.
(My favorite Rick Astley song is "Cry For Help", a preference which might have something to do with the buttery tone of the Bosendorfer piano in the music video.
Oh my, he's good! I think I'll share that one. The whole year makes sense now...or not.
ReplyDeleteNot fair. I only have dial up and now I'll never know what the year end means nor 2008. You broadband trendies are such a tease! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a hoot and a half. Except some of it is pretty sad. Very clever chap, that Uncle Jay. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteSteph, can you watch anything on YouTube? It's over there under the same title.
ReplyDeletePaul, I was taken aback by a couple of the references, but, as a whole, I thought it was too funny to give it a miss.
I saw it over on shel's site. oh, I laughed until I cried and then I choked on my coffee. Very dangerous video.
ReplyDeleteI got most of the references, except the Rick Astley clip and a few frames before, the woman in black and white. Some reference about family.
Damn, wish I'd thought of that.
That's pretty funny! I hope you don't mind if I post it also.

ReplyDeleteMelanie, go ahead. It's not mine, and it's free.
ReplyDeleteSusan, I forgot to thank you publicly for sending me the link. Mea culpa!

ReplyDeleteAh, Mimi, all is forgiven! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh, and Badger, that was Caroline Kennedy in the black dress with the white collar... Get the family reference now?
ReplyDeleteSteph,

ReplyDeleteBrian's and Astley's versions together
Thanks Mark - I'll try it now!
ReplyDeleteThanks alot for that tip Mark - it worked! And it proved well worth the wait - very clever and entertaining and sadly true.
ReplyDeleteand it took nearly an hour to go through blip by blip before I replayed it!

Happy 7th day of Christmas . . .
Well, I'm glad that all worked out for everyone. Help one another. That's what I always say. Love one another, too.
