I'm not putting up with the crap comments that are coming in, and I am the decider about what is crap. If folks want to disagree with sensible arguments, well and good, but I'm not going to spend my time rebutting nonsense, nor will I allow the nonsense to clutter up my comments.
Cher Grandmere,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about your received upsetting comments. In being true to what we think, believe and live there is often a price to pay. I'm now back "online" and will, as you might observe, come to any defense under my own name!
Mimi
ReplyDeleteDon't bother posting this, we'll leave it as personal correspondence. I repeat: I am sorry that my attempts at a spirited discussion don't fit what you want here (trolling, bombed, etc). I am new to your site and will leave now with no further need to return. Obviously I don't think that my comments and arguments are crap (though it is starting to look like anything with which you disagree you consider crap). Your prerogative.
De-moderate and make your life easier. I'm gone.
All Right, T, good to have you back. I'm getting accustomed to the comments. They could signify that I'm doing something right.
ReplyDeleteJoey T, lo! - your comment sees the light of day, er, night.
ReplyDeleteYou were not the only one. I had BO commenting, too. Most of the comments will come through, but I don't want things getting out of control while I sleep, so, for now, I'll leave the moderation on.
Mimi,
ReplyDeleteI have been reading George Lakoff on rationality and the conceptual frameworks of conservatives and progressives. In essence he says that conscious argumentation is futile when people don't share the same model of the way things are and he makes a pretty good case that conservatives and progressives talk past each other a lot.
Keep up the good work and keep the moderation on as long as you decide you need to.
Allen, thanks. I could see that I would not have any sort of logical or sensible discussion with either BO, Anonymous, or Joey T. Where do I go in a discussion with folks who approve using torture?
ReplyDeleteYou go, Grandmère Mimi! I really enjoy your blog and rarely read the comments. I fully support your RIGHT to moderate all the hate and lack of sanity away from YOUR blog.
ReplyDeleteThe conservative mind processes information differently: the FEAR! response is heightened, and for some, all-controlling. [Google the citation: it's a recent medical study]
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think it's probably an evolutionary throwback . . . but as long as a couple of fertile conservatives are thinking (?), frantically, "Quick, let's have sex---before THEY get us!", whatcha gonna do? They'll be plaguing us w/ their hysteria for an eon or two longer... (Until then, there's blog moderation ;-/)
Necessary but sad...
ReplyDeleteBut how much isn't?
Thanks all for the support.
ReplyDeleteCrapaud, welcome. I like your handle.
I've moderated comments from the beginning, actually due to spam from casinos at first, combined with my dislike of the "type the impossible word into the box" system. I have rejected probably no more than ten or twenty comments in total in the years I've been blogging. There was a recent rash from an atheist who posted four or five "why don't you people get a life" comments and they just went to the dumpster. And very, very rarely something pops up that is just so angry and hurt I don't want to expose it to the world. Even Diane Arbus had limits... (in ref to another topic).
ReplyDeleteKeep the faith, Mimi, and God Bless You!
Tobias, as you see, moderation is off again. Eventually, I may have to turn it on permanently. Thanks for your kind words.
ReplyDeleteNote to all: I am Diane Arbus, but I have my limits!
