Am I The Only One...

in the whole USA who is not watching the Superbowl? Check in if you are NOT watching the BIG GAME. Grandpère popped in periodically to give me a play-by-play of the pre-game festivities, and he cannot believe that I'm not watching. Millions of people in the country and around the world have eyes glued to their tee vees, so why not me? I can't think why he's surprised, because I don't remember ever watching. I missed the whole Janet Jackson affaire du teton, but I saw the rerun. If the New Orleans Saints ever make it to the Superbowl, I'll watch.

  1. We're not watching it and neither are our dinner guests.

  2. Wow! That was fast, Mike.

    Bon appetit!

  3. Not watching here either. We were invited to a huge super bowl party, but we decided to stay home.

  4. Let's see, I am at home and I have not turned on my television in days. That, of course, might not be conclusive, so let my add I have not looked at news online this afternoon.

I congratulate myself whenever I even know who is playing in the Superbowl prior to the day itself. This is at least the second year in a row that I have known.

  5. NOT!

We had lunch guests...we ate in the garden...birds chirping, sun filtered down through the overhead flowerladen trellis...all is quiet in Central America, life is good for most in my village, thanks be to God and so many well-intentioned human beings (intentions count, don´t believe the doubters).

Big Abrazos, I remain disconnected from the cable T.V. (well, maybe I ought have a little peek soon).

P.S. I did post a new/old V.G. Robinson interview at my blog...it is a touchdown! Meanwhile, hopefully, the Primates will try and reinvent COMMON SENSE (not Cause) in Egypt! Really, to think some of those meanspirited folks think they can control the character of others in the Anglican Communion with their tainted little Covenant (authored/pushed and written in the blood of others by the feckless +Gomez...Jamaica has the HIGHEST HATE CRIME RATE in the Western Hemisphere)...afterall, healing souls isn´t not much of a specialty amongst fear/hate-mongers and crime instigators.

  6. We are watching "All Creatures..." for the gazillionth time. All creatures here are at our feet: Earnest, Choe, Toby, Duncan, the new pup Rupert (a black and tan coonhound in the House of Labs!), and Pat the Cat. We joke about having a SuperBowl party w/o watching the game.

  7. The TV is on, the game is on, my husband and stepdaughter are watching. I sit here with my computer for good fellowship.

As one of my friends said on her facebook status, what big game is on today?

Some answers were Naked Twister and Knit Knit Revolution. Those are games!

  8. Nope.. watching a doccumentary on the Discovery Chanel

  9. So, Paul, who's playing?

Leo, your lunch sounds lovely. I'll check in at your blog.

Amyj, welcome. LOL. A Superbowl party without watching the game sounds - well - super. I love ACGAS. And you really have all those wonderful creatures at your feet?

BillyD, I couldn't say for sure.

  10. I'm watching some of the play, but I don't care for the hoopla. Like you, if the Saints *ever* make it, I'll be enthusiastic.
I do love football, but for me the season ends with LSU and the Saints.

  11. Fran, it's good of you to do the fellowship thing. I should get on the laptop and keep GP company.

Hillbilly! I thought all hillbillies watched the Super Bowl.

  12. We're not watching either. No football fans in this house. We are recovering from 6 children in our house over the weekend. One even called 911 on the sly. We found out when 911 called back and sent a police officer over. Thank goodness he was very nice.

  13. Not watching here either. But I'm sure the replay will be on tonight when my husband gets home from work. The last time I paid attention to football was when the Rams were in LA, the Cardinals in StL, and the Oilers in Houston.

  14. I was born and raised in Michigan which makes me a Lions fan. I suspect the Saints will be in the Superbowl before the Lions. No, I'm not watching.

However, I am getting the updates on the game via my spouse the way your are from Grandpere.

  15. Not watching it. Never have watched it. I am watching John Adam from HBO. Have been saving it for just such an occasion as this.

  16. TV's not on in my house, either. I've been reading a book.

  17. The last time I watched the Super Bowl was when the Oakland Raiders were supposed to be involved, but as far as I could tell they didn't even show up! The Lovely Mona and I watched a movie Princess Caribou. It's always fun to see the upper classes made fools.

  18. Today at CI class, we decided that a super bowl was a fabulous bowl in which to serve salad.

Jay, I loved the John Adams series!

  19. Jim, I understand about LSU and the Saints. GP is not much of a football fan, except for watching those two teams.

Melanie! You turned down the big party?

Two Auntees, I've done the six children bit. It's exhausting. One called 911? I've never had one to do that.

Sara, the last time I paid real attention to football was when I was at LSU. That was 48 years ago. I skipped some of the games even when I had a free student ticket.

Kathy, Jay, Lapin, Pat, I never thought I'd have so many not-watching companions.

It's always fun to see the upper classes made fools.

    Padre, ain't that the truth?

KJ, thank you. I wanted to say something clever about a big bowl, but nothing came to mind.

The John Adams series was excellent.

You know, I try to respond to each comment, but they're coming so quickly that I can't keep up.

  20. The Super Bowl is on today? That's nice.

  21. We're not watching.... just got in from hospital rounds after church..... a light dinner in front of the fire, and we are doing a bathroom remodel---been painting and have new fixtures and tub and tile.... so, not watching!

  25. The Cardinals and the Steelers. The late Pat Tillmann left his chance to play for the Cardinals to serve his country and that's another story.

"Warner fumbles the ball and it’s recovered by the Steelers. Game over. Pittsburgh wins, 27-23, to claim its sixth Super Bowl."

Google keeps me abreast, what can I say?

  26. Oh, and I did learn something about the fervor of Saints' fans when I drove in to work on weekends when the Saints were playing. Louisiana will shut down if the Saints go to the Superbowl. (And I will cheer in solidarity.)

  27. I came home, made dinner, read the paper, turned on the TV just in time to catch the first half of the half time show. I saw the Boss perform 10th Avenue Freeze Out and Born to Run thirty years ago, and more than once; would have been nice to have some fresh material (actually he did one song from the album he released last week, complete with a gospel choir, but it wasn't that great a song IMO)--so went upstairs to put on a Cecilia Bartoli CD I bought today at Borders (Salieri album) and start my nightly Intertubes addiction.
And now I'm playing the Art of Fugue, and saw the results when changing the channel for my mother so she could watch the news while she gets ready for bed.
However, as the teams were neither the Patriots or the Dolphins, I could not care any less. (Of course, last year, I did watch..)

  28. All over now but the reruns. Yay Steelers!

Words can't express my gratification at being in the company of an altogether outstanding assembly of superior people. I am honored. Thank you all for dropping by.

  29. It was a pretty good game (watched it intermittently, mainly for the commercials)

Now, I'm watching a much BETTER "game": Puppy Bowl V! (too cute for words)

  30. I'm a very big football fan - which is why I will never watch that pathetic charade called the Stupor Bowl.

Any game with four downs and the fair catch rule is obviously intended for small children, not professional athletes.

The only North American professional football championship worth mentioning was held last November in Montreal, where the Calgary Stampeders defeated the Montreal Allouettes. (I was cheering for Montreal.)

  31. Of course I'm not watching. I watched "The Devil Wears Prada" (which was on tv as a chick-flick alternative) instead. I hadn't watched tv since the Inauguration so I was due for some. I corrected student papers for about half the time I was watching. And I didn't eat nachos or chili or buffalo wings,

  32. Feline bishops do not like big clutzes who bump into each other on purpose on large outdoor fields.

  33. I didn't watch it either, but to make myself sound "with it" at church today, I switched on ESPN just so I would know the names of the two teams playing. The congregants were quite impressed.

  34. I hooked up my husband's new tv and dvd player and put in "Madame Butterfly" for him to watch. I watched David Brooks interview Gwen Ifill on C-Span and caught up on my soaps.

I enjoyed football when I was in high school and college. After that, it just disappeared from my radar screen. It was never on my husband's screen at all (he grew up on the other side of the world).

  35. Don't really know what this is, but when you say "football" don't you mean Rugby? We did that at school in the late 60ies.

    What a drag :-(

It was so outstandingly homophobic, the (rather big) gymn teacher and his tiny tiny Yorkshire terrier...

Didn't go well with my sense of irony.

  36. I wasn't watching. I took No1 daughter to the live Strictly Come Dancing road show. (AKA Dancing with the Stars). What a hoot!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I watched it about two minutes until I realized they weren't playing the ball with their feet, and therefore it couldn't possibly be football.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I didn't watch the game because I was fearful of jinxing the outcome. lol. I also had Puppy Bowl V on but the kittens at halftime weren't very good this year. And one pup insisted on sleeping. I usually cheer for the underdog but not when the big dog is the Stillers, Brownies or Bears.

  39. ...when you say "football" don't you mean Rugby?

Göran, I don't follow sports at all, so I have no idea. I believe that what we call football here is not the same as what Europeans call football.

Who knew this would be such an entertaining thread? Not I.

I'll wager that the Puppy Bowl was a lot more fun.

It does seem strange to call the game football, since there's so little actual kicking of the ball in our version of the game. I know that much.

  40. The last Super Bowl I saw starred Joe Namath. My mother loved him so.

  41. Didn't watch... went to a reception for donors to music (choir, schola, music memorial sundays, organ recital series, etc.) at St. Mark's. It was a fun time. I'm sure some were Tivo-ing it, but I don't have that lovely contraption... I did see at ++Clumber's blog that Pittsburgh is once again victorious.

  42. too late! but I didn't watch it either, not any of it.

I was working on a funeral sermon, but that's not the reason I didn't watch.

    just didn't want to.
