"Please Pray For My Country"

From Brian R. in Australia:

I ask for your prayers for those who have died, those who are injured, those who have lost loved ones and those who have lost their homes and all they possess.

  1. Prayers for all caught up in this fire - prayers for rain to help put out the fires.

  2. Thanks for this Mimi. I felt a little hysterical last night as I have seen fire race towards my home (2002). Thankfully my state was spared the high winds this weekend and the weather has finally cooled down but my heart grieves for these people.

  3. Brian, I would have been hysterical, too. I meant to ask for prayers even without your message.

  4. Oh heavens yes.

Being a Southern Californian, I know well the awful sight of the morning sky dyed dark reddish brown, the fall of ash like snow on the car, the eyes always on the horizon looking for the smoke, the flare of flame, and the armegeddon-like appearance or a wall of lapping flame cresting a ridge at night. I've lived with the facemasks in the car and the awful hacking cough that we have from the smoke. It's hard to convey to the uninitiated what it's like. Where we are, the ocean is at our backs and one of these days, the fire will not be stopped, and will rush chimney-like through the canyons and destroy our city.

So all blessings of all sorts to the brave firefighters who resist and peace and rest to those who endure, may they sleep at last without fear of the crackle of the licking flames.

  5. My thoughts are with those in Australia. I remember the Oakland hills fire near where I live in California which killed 25 and destroyed 3000 homes (including the houses of some friends though they all survived). We Californians are always aware how much fire threatens both us and much of Australia.

I have cousins in Australia but not near the fires this time.

  6. I see IT and I posted at about the same time. Southern California fires are generally worst than northern California fires. I've never had to resort to facemasks or feared my home burning down but have had the awful odor of burning lasting for days while the hills burned and the sun turned red. I second her thanks to the firefighters.

  7. Prayers for the people of Victoria and for the firefighters and medics working ceaselessly to keep lives and property safe. God rest the souls of the faithful departed and grant them newness of life.

Brian, I had the privilege of visiting Melbourne in 2002. The countryside was splendid and the people so warmly welcoming. I remember every kindness with gratitude.
