Update On Sunny - "Life Is Uncertain"

Sunny received a heart transplant a few days ago.

Sunny update:

Mom reports that Sunny opened her eyes and Mom told her she had her new heart for 36 hours. Her eyes got really big and Mom asked "are you happy?" and Sunny nodded "yes."

If all goes well, assist pump comes out of the aorta today and perhaps Sunny comes off ventilator as well. Prayers must be working.

GN

Thanks be to God and all who prayed or sent good wishes.

  2. Thanks to the surgeons and medical staff. Thoughts also to the relatives and friends of the donor.

My sister-in-law's nephew had a heart transplant as a child some 20 years ago; he is still doing well.

  3. Erp, of course. Thanks to all those folks, too. It's like the Academy Awards. Once you start thanking, it's hard to stop.

Sunny is apparently a young person, so it good to have your news of the transplanted heart that's still doing the job after 20 years.

  4. And the methods have improved a lot since then. I live near one of the top hospitals for heart transplants and heart surgery and have attended talks about some of the strides made. One really amazing one to me was about a child who was diagnosed while in utero with major heart problems. Her mother was transferred to the hospital to give birth and the new baby underwent her first surgery almost immediately which was followed in the next couple of years with more so that her heart would actually work close to intended. The really cute healthy looking girl now 4 or so was present (with her parents and sister) at the talk. The surgeon giving the talk said this was not too uncommon now. Think of the skill (and specialized tools) needed to do surgery on a newborn baby's heart.

  5. Yes, there's been a remarkable development since some 40 years back!
