Thanks to Erika for the link.
Not too sure of the full etiquette of blogging yet, would it be rude of me to comment on Alcohol Trouble Shooting which was posted some days ago? It's just that it reminded me of the rhyme
ReplyDeleteOne bottle,
two bottle,
three bottle,
more.
Four bottle,
five bottle,
six bottle,
floor.
Which is a variation on the child's counting, action rhyme 1 potato, 2 potato. Do you know it?
Petty, I didn't know that one, but I do know "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall".
ReplyDelete99 bottles of beer on the wall,
99 bottles of beer.
If one of the bottles should happen to fall,
98 bottles of beer on the wall.
It goes on. You get the idea. It's easy unless you've had a few too many. Another brilliant American drinking song.
Well, now back to topic ;-). Yes, I certainly agree with the last one!
ReplyDeleteYes I know the 1 but we tend to start at 10 and sing
ReplyDelete"There were 10 green bottles hanging on the wall,
10 green bottles hanging on the wall
and if 1 green bottle should accidently fall
there would be 9 green bottles hanging on the wall.
9 green bottles hanging ....."
and so on.
Mind you here it was used in schools etc as a number teaching rhyme rather than as a drinking song hence, I suppose, the green bottles instead of bottles of beer.
Oh, Mimi, we sang '99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall' on the bus back from away games if we won. If we lost, which was mostly the case, we were very quiet!
ReplyDeleteWhat an intellectual challenge this thread is. I'm trying to keep up, but It's hard.
ReplyDeleteWell, I needed my two fun threads today.
Susan, I agree with all three of them.
Our version of 99 bottles of beer was a bit less passive:
ReplyDeleteTake one down, pass it around, 98 bottles etc.
But back when I sang that I was still a teetotaling Baptist - and I still don't drink beer. Which is not to say I don't imbibe in the old ETOH now and again. Rhône reds, anyone?
So glad I can still find edifying threads in the blogosphere.
Paul, edification is my goal, always and ever.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard your version of the song before. I like my version better. Hey! What could I do? The bottle fell right into my hands.
You have your Rhône and the occasional Sazerac.
Awesome - my cat and I will just do as we please then.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's why there are no men in our life.
