The apostles and the elders met together to consider this matter. After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, ‘My brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that I should be the one through whom the Gentiles would hear the message of the good news and become believers. And God, who knows the human heart, testified to them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us; and in cleansing their hearts by faith he has made no distinction between them and us. Now therefore why are you putting God to the test by placing on the neck of the disciples a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear? On the contrary, we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.’
Acts 15:6-11
Yes Grandmere --I do see that you have meditated upon the same bit of Scripture. It moved me too.
ReplyDeleteMark Harris has a good post up about the Anglican Communion --whether it is a moral community or a believing community. It is quite excellent (it is about two or three posts down, with the ACAWKE bird --not sure I remembered the bird name properly--sigh...) It brings this scripture to mind, again.
blessings!
The thing that kept occurring to me in that reading is: "TEC has clearly brought joy, good works, faith in God, love, all these works of the Spirit to people. That being the case, how can some folks still keep saying 'They don't believe right!'?"
ReplyDeleteMargaret, I read Mark Harris' post. It was good.
ReplyDeleteMark, I can't answer your question. What a small god it would be who was concerned about whether we had our beliefs and doctrines lined up just right.
Some friends of mine spoke about Cal Thomas' most recent column this am. He would do well to meditate on this piece of Scripture. Can't see him doing that, though.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the subject of Cal Thomas' column, Laurelew?
