Ignorance Abounds!

From Atrios:

Economist Arthur Laffer says:

If you like the Post Office and the Department of Motor Vehicles and you think they’re run well, just wait till you see Medicare, Medicaid and health care done by the government.

Watch the video at MediaMatters. No one calls him on it.

  1. I was watching a television program a few nights back, probably on MSNBC, where the quality and cost of Veterans' Administration hospitals was discussed. I had assumed that their service was relatively dismal - I heard a number of complaints 20 or 30 years ago about substandard conditions and treatment, and some of the recent stories about inadequate long-term treatment of those seriously wounded in the Bush Wars reinforced this. Turns out that their standards are excellent and that the quality of treatment in VA establishments is rated superior to that in most private, city or county hospitals. Gives the lie to Arthur Laffer.

Found the MSNBC link text - watch it!

  2. I saw the report about the VA, too, and I confess that I was a little surprised after the stories of the returning soldiers with mental health problems not getting the proper treatment.

It's not just one survey that gives the VA high ratings, so I suppose there's something to it.
