Washing here, too. Definitely not shopping. Well, we're out of eggs, so I may venture to Rouse's to pick up a few food items, but the shopping hordes will be elsewhere.
Left Millinocket at 6:30 am to get Izzie to her surgery by 10 am and made it with 10 min. to spare. (BTW the surgeon says it went well. She had a lot of gunk oozing out of the disc that needed cleaning out.)
Bought a few groceries.
Got some caligraphy ink.
About to start a fire in the fireplace and enjoy the rain.
I had my mammogram and did not go shopping at the mall across the street. The parking lot at the mall was full. I can't stand being around that many people trying to shop.
I work in a department store. Guess what I did today?
We opened before God woke up, I think; and He'll be cuddling under the bedspread tonight before we close. Fortunately I didn't have to be in work until a more reasonable time--7 AM, still early but at least the sun was coming up as I drove to work.
The insane thing that we can never understand is why so many people show up--some of them an hour before--we open. Some years the employees have a problem getting into the store because of the crowd waiting for us to open. We just don't get it.
We also don't get the opposite sort of folks who postpone all their Christmas shopping until the 23rd or 24th, and then are upset when they can't find what they want. It's not like they didn't know what the date was or anything of that sort.
And I will never forget the sight one year of the Best Buy parking lot filled up at 4 AM--with people fighting for spaces!
As an economic indicator--our business was better than last year, but not nearly as good as most Black Fridays in the last decade.
And if you do want to shop Thanksgiving weekend, the best day to do it is Wednesday, the day before. Most stores will already have their Thanksgiving sale in place that day, so you don't really miss out on anything except most of the crowds and the doorbusters--and a pretty young woman like yourself who asks nicely could probably get that price if she spoke to a manager.
And avoiding crowds in general this time of year--the earlier in the day you can go shopping the better. (Except for those 4 AM doorbusters.)
Kishnevi, thanks for the tips. That's good to know about the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I don't really do much in the way of Christmas shopping. We've cut way back on gifts by picking names. My older grandchildren want money, and that's fine with me.
I've found that shopping around the middle of December works pretty well. There's still enough left to have choices, and some merchandise is already on sale by then.
My heart goes out to the folks who work in the middle of the madness. I worked in retail many years ago, and I remember going home from work dead tired and in a daze from the rush and hustle.
Mimi, thanks. I love the radiology facility I have been using for many years. I can choose the radiologist that reads my mammogram. It is a female radiologist. My appointment was at 3 p.m. I got there at 2:40 p.m., filled out the usual papers, and had my mammogram. My radiologist came in talked with me and gave me a written copy of the results (which was normal thank goodness). I was on my way home by 3:10 p.m.

ReplyDeleteTwo Auntees, prayers for a good result from your mammogram.

ReplyDeleteThey are great!!
Two Auntees, I'm glad the results were normal. How nice that you get to know the same day. The facility sounds quite efficient.
