Something Good About Mary
Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) will vote "yes" to move the health care bill forward. Good for you, Mary. In no way does this vote signal what her final vote on the bill will be. Still, it's an excellent start.
The Republicans presently drone on and on about abortion coverage in the health care bill, Why doesn't a Democrat ask the Republicans if they wish to exclude coverage for surgery for ectopic pregnancies from the bill?
UPDATE: Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), another holdout, announced that she will vote "yes" to move the health care bill forward.
UPDATE 2: The Republican senators' scare-tactics speeches against the health care reform bill are despicable: "Everyone will be on Medicaid...we'll have medical gulags...we'll wait six months for medical care..." One ugly lie after another.

I read this bit of news earlier and thought of you. Did you notice that there was big money in the bill directed to LA if it passes?
ReplyDeleteIs it just ol' cynical me?
Margaret, the money may be her payoff, but Louisiana needs the money. Health care in New Orleans is still in terrible shape. If it takes a paltry $1 million to get her to allow the bill to move forward, then give it to her. She is in a tough spot. She will be raked over the coals for her vote, and she wants a little something to take home to try to appease the vultures that will be circling.
ReplyDeleteOh dear.... I'm glad y'all are getting some well deserved help... even if it is paltry.
ReplyDeleteBlessings.
And damn the vultures. Damn them.
I sure wish some of our Michigan representatives (many of them Republicans) would follow her and look beyond the ever present political differences and see to the people's needs first. But sadly I think the political gulf is too large for them to get beyond partisan politics.
