Paul and Bill are headed back to New Mexico. A series of unfortunate events, having to do with delayed flights for one reason or another, would have led them to miss two or more days of their tour in Turkey. They therefore decided to cancel their trip. I am heartbroken for them. Paul is a good sport, and sounded as well as could be expected on the phone. In fact, he was cheering me up. You'd have thought my trip was interrupted. :-(
Fortunately, they purchased trip cancellation insurance, so they shouldn't be out too much money.
When Paul arrives home, he will, very likely, find his home in great disarray, because his large family of children (his various and sundry stuffed animals) will not be expecting him home, and they will not have had time to put the place back in order.
Safe travels back to Albuquerque, Paul and Bill.
Margaret, I felt so bad for them. They were looking forward so to the trip. Paul did sound OK, unless he was putting on a good act for my sake.
ReplyDeleteOh I feel awful for them. I just spoke to another friend who has had a trip cancelled this week. She was supposed to leave on Thursday and return on Monday... the airline advised her that she could not leave until Monday and would not be able to get back for 10 days.
ReplyDeleteBad times for travel. I am glad Paul is being a good sport.
But I can't imagine what will happen when he enters that house and surprises them... Oh boy.
My children are exemplars of good behavior. I could not even get a whiff of pot in the air and, aside from some candy scattered on the floor, the place was as I left it. Of course, they heard the garage door go up and Bill back his truck out and I put the car in, so they had some time to recover.
ReplyDeleteThere were some smirks on faces but I think they are happy to see old dad, all the same.
Bill and I both eschew drama (most of the time anyway) and are good about spilt milk. Back to work tomorrow. I am home, safe and sound.
I told Mimi that since she is always getting the scoop on everything, she could break the news before I got home. Good job, love!
I will post my travel photos shortly. Of Denver.
Glad you're safe back home, love. I can't wait to see your pictures. Of Denver.
ReplyDeleteThey are posted. Not exactly the exotic collection I had hoped to shoot, but at least some proof that we were there. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer!
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, I had to abandon plans to go to Ireland at the last minute, and I was insufferable for days. Paul seems to be bearing up with remarkable grace and resilience.
It always pays to purchase trip insurance.
Turkey will still be there next year when you try again. At least you get to come home to New Mexico, a splendid and beautiful place.
The worst that's ever happened to me having to do with delayed flights were:
ReplyDelete1. Miss a play in NYC for which I paid over $100 for the ticket.
2. Miss a visit to the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland.
One might say I've been lucky.
Thanks for the kind thoughts and sympathy, folks. Counterlight, you are very right that we get to return to land that we both love, where the Sandias rise in splendor in every season and the sky is vast and wonderful. With a little luck we will reschedule when the weather is nicer, not only in domestic airports but in Turkey. I really did not want to walk about in the rain a lot.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the cancelation Paul. Winter travel can be iffy. I'm sure your little children were delighted to have you home. Albequerque is a lovely town.
