The Diocese of Los Angeles received word from the Presiding Bishop’s Office on March 17 of completion of the wider church’s consent process to the Dec. 5, 2009 election of the Rev. Canon Mary Douglas Glasspool as Bishop Suffragan in the Diocese of Los Angeles.
Wonderful news! I breathe a sigh of relief that the Episcopal Church takes another step forward for justice and inclusion. Although many folks who know more than I about the inner workings of TEC said that Canon Glasspool would receive consents, I could not believe until now.
See The Lead for details.
See also Mark Harris' post at Preludium on what the election of Mary Glasspool means for the Episcopal Church.
Excellent. And Mark Harris's piece is a clear, fine statement.
ReplyDeleteBRAVO, reality is setting in!
ReplyDeleteGreat news!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant news. Another step forward
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely over the moon on this!
ReplyDeleteGood news indeed. More pressure on the CofE.
ReplyDeleteFor quite some time now, I have been taking MadPriest's position that a pessimist is rarely disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that the glass has turned out to be not merely half-full, but "a good measure--pressed down, shaken together, and running over."
The Holy Spirit is alive and well and moving in the world. May we continue to have the courage, and find the grace, to follow where She leads.
Pax,
Doxy
I'm still pinching myself. It's the right day for pinching, yes?
ReplyDeleteThanks be to God!!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic news! It made my day!
ReplyDeleteRe Doxy's comment, it has been an astonishingly encouraging four months - certainly here in Upper So Carolina - for episcopal elections.
ReplyDeleteStunning! Truly, amazing. I'm reeling. Starting with Morris Thompson's election in Louisiana, we've had an unbelievably excellent run.
ReplyDeleteHow long will it be before Rowan tries to rain on our parade with gloomy prognostications?
Suspect Rome's escalating and mis-handled problems may take some of the edge off attacks on TEC.
ReplyDeletePerhaps 24 hours, Mimi?
ReplyDeleteI read the news here first. For me, at least, Mimi gets the scoop once again. A wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteI read the news first at The Lead and lifted from them, which I often do, but I always give them credit.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your joy, Grandmere Mimi. There is much joy in a small North Dakota congregation whose life and worship are much blessed by more than one glbt couple. The Spirit is moving among us and leading us we know not where, and it may even penetrate the recesses of power in this small diocese that refused consent to Glasspool. Now to live in loving relaitonship with those here who have refused consent while still maintaining the wide embrace of Christ in this parish. Perhaps because of that wide embrace we can be willing to love...not the same as being willing to succumb.
ReplyDeleteGrateful for those who did consent, wanting to care for those who did not.
Bruce
Great news, indeed!
ReplyDeleteLittle steps. Little steps.
ReplyDeleteGrandmère Mimi, Rowan who?
ReplyDeleteI asked a friend in London about him and was told we take more interest in him in the US than they do in the UK. I'm told that more C of E parishes in the UK do SS Blessings than we do in TEC.
Funny, Wade. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteBruce, blessings to you. Yes, we must pray for those who are unhappy about consents for Mary Glasspool. I visited Stand Firm yesterday, and the commentary was...I don't know how to describe it. But the commentary was just as bad when Morris Thompson received consents. When the folks there were ranting about him being a heretic, I quoted the Gospel about judging, and that was enough to get me banned as a troll. But yes, yours is the proper attitude.
ReplyDeleteWade, funny, and, I expect, true before very long.
