IN THE BLOOMIN' GARDEN

Above is the most popular variety of azaleas. The bushes bloom only once a year. I missed the flowers at the height of their beauty by a few days.

The azalea bush pictured above blooms several times a year. It's quite unusual to have the two varieties in bloom at the same time.

Above is our wee mock orange. The little shrub has had a hard time of it, suffering much tribulation during it's rather long life, including being pulled up from the roots by a neighborhood toddler and replanted and cut off at the ground by the riding lawn mower. Still, we take pleasure in its resurrection and its plucky persistence in producing lovely flowers this spring.

Above are the potted petunias, which are just beginning their lives in our garden.

More to come. I was quite surprised at the number of different blooms in our yard when I began to take pictures.

  1. Beautiful flowers.

I love your little mock orange tree's story. Good for it for persisting so manfully in the face of such trouble.

  2. Because the mock orange has survived many adversities, I'm all the fonder of it. Others in the neighborhood are larger and produce more blossoms, but ours has a history.

    thank you for the pictures
wonderful to see Spring in progress even if somewhere else!

here though it has been a quite mild Spring, outdoor plantings don't happen until the May 24 week-end to avoid the risk of frost- a lonf week-end considered the Queen's 'official birthday' though it was actually that of Victoria R.

    the Azelia's look wonderfl!

    Thanks Mimi

  4. Cher David! Good to hear from you. No planting before Good Friday is the custom here, and although the date for Good Friday changes from year to year, Grandpère follows the custom.

We were in London in the 1980s for the Queen's official birthday, which falls in May over there. The Queen still rode her horse in the parade back then. A light rain began to fall, and we thought the parade may be canceled, but no. The queen rode in the light rain.

  5. Lovely blossoms. I am so glad you are also enjoying spring, Mimi. We had mock orange in California. I loved it.

  6. Paul, I didn't really appreciate all the color in the garden until I took the pictures. Our yard is large, so the flowers are spread out.
