NOS AMIS DE PARIS

Yesterday, our friends from Paris visited. In truth, our friends live in the burbs of Paris, but "friends from Paris" has a nicer ring to it, don't you think? Le Papa, in the rear center of the picture, worked with Grandpère for a number of years at Nicholls State University. Then he married his lovely French wife, on the right in the photo, and they moved to France and had two good-looking half-French and half-American children. Both youngsters speak very good English.

There we are, all together, in the Chinese restaurant here in Thibodaux, where we had lunch before our friends left town. A good time was had by all.

Le Papa says he reads my blog about once a week, but he doesn't read, as he put it, "all the religious stuff". Perhaps, he chooses the better part.

  1. Hey, nuthin' wrong with the burbs of Paris!! How cool is that. I know someone who commutes to my workplace from Paris, a very handsome, chic, stylish, lovely man. Lucky fellow to live where he lives. I love central Paris though. It's like a big exquisite jewelled cake.

But if Le Papa doesn't read the religious stuff on your blog, Mimi, what is there left to read? It all strikes me as religious, in one sense.

    That it is, Cathy.

    ...religious, in one sense.

That's how Le Papa's conversion will come. He won't know what hit him.

Sounds like you all had a lovely time.
It is always encouraging to read about kids being bilingual (or more). I continue to plod along with my children- someday they will thank me :)

  4. Catherine, we enjoyed very much seeing our friends again. Le Papa worked hard to get his children fluent in English. Since they were quite young, they've been in schools in which part of the teaching of other subjects besides the English language were in English. And, on occasion, he's sent them for part of the summer for a month or so to stay with relatives in the US.

Le Papa's wife is named Catherine.

Your children will thank you one day. The child's brain is wired to learn languages with ease in a way that seems to disappear for most of us as we grow older. Now is the time.

  5. I do like the pictures. You are right about being wired for learning languages at a young age. Paris may sound more classy, but anywhere in France is wonderful.

  6. Amelia, our friends invited us to visit, but I can't get Tom to go. He says he's done with flying across the ocean. I may have to go on my own. It's a shame, because Le Papa was one of Tom's best friends when he lived here.
