ALL AFRICA BISHOPS CONFERENCE

Archbishop Robert Duncan was included with the other Anglican primates during the opening Eucharist, and shared in the distribution of communion, as did the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams.

Oh me, oh my! At first, I thought the photo was not for real, but indeed it is.

From Lapin.

  1. Never forget the lead ¨gifts of God giver for the people of God receivers¨ refuses to take communion with Presiding Bishop Jefferts-Schori of TEC..I´m certainly not impressed by this latest pretense/sacrilige well- orchestrated-photo-op-for-bigotry at Archbishop Henry Orombi´s Ugandan ¨brujeria¨ and Anglican Communion forced ¨deathwatch.¨

  2. Leo, as I looked at Rowan, I thought of the first line of Aretha Franklin's song "Oh Me, Oh My". It goes:

Oh me, oh my, I'm a fool for you, baby.

  4. JCF, are you telling me that Robert Duncan is not black? I'm like Stephen Colbert. I don't see people's color.

  5. But there is something 'wrong' with Bobby Duncan. Look at him in any photograph or God-forbid in person. Alfred Hitchcock could have used him for some bizarre film production I am sure. I once saw him in liturgical procession at an academic exercise and even mild-mannered me had to be restrained since I reflexively turned into a barking dog. No kidding! Arf! Arf! Arf! (Glad you're back State-side with a new addiction to single malt. Have you checked the prices locally?)

  6. "We have told him [Williams] and he understood us, that (there's) no more diplomacy on that matter, homosexuality. We made our minds very clear and he is going back knowing there is no gray area on our part." Henry Orombi.

  7. Bruce, I've seen Duncan in the flesh at the ecumenical service when the TEC bishops met in New Orleans a couple of years ago. Rowan Williams preached the sermon.

The price of single malt doesn't matter too much, as a bottle will go a long way with me, and I'm quite sure that my beloved will not take to the drink.

Lapin, I suppose it's a good thing that Orombi made himself quite clear about his views on the matter of teh gays to Rowan to his face, although it would be difficult to understand how anyone could have made the mistake of thinking there were gray areas in Orombi's opinions about homosexuals before he spoke his latest words.

  8. That lineup are never going to win a beauty contest, are they. Not that that's the main problem, of course.

  9. I'll tell you what bugs me about Bobby. I figured it out watching Turner Classic Movies last week. He reminds me of Peter Lorre with eyebrows.

  10. Actually on second thought, Rowan looks like he's completely zoned out and in a trance; Bobby D. appears to be asking permission to use the facilities. When ya gotta go, ya gotta go.

  11. Ah, I knew the picture would lure the great wits who visit here out from under the woodwork to leave a comment. Thank you for proving me right.

  12. We have also let +Rowan know that there will be no going back for TEC. We are going where the Spirit leads. As someone once said, "Either lead, follow, or get out of the way."

What bothers me about him is that he will meet with the true schismatics, such as +Robert and the Bishops of Africa, while snubbing +Katharine or denying +Gene an invitation to Lambeth, even though he was a regularly elected Bishop in our Church. It especially bothers me that he does not call their hands on the shameful treatment of GLBT individuals in their countries. No stand at all is tacit approval. If he doesn’t believe that, he should ask some of the religious leaders who lived in the South during the Civil Rights Movement.

  13. Boocat, Rowan is caught between a rock and a hard place. You're right. He shuns TEC folks and sucks up to the bigots. His actions will come back to bite him.

As Fr Roy Bourgeois says, "Silence is complicity."

  14. It looks like a weird liturgy, especially for an old Anglo-Catholic like RW.

  15. First they wanted me to believe that Duncan was an archbishop. Now he is supposed to be an African. What's next? I suppose I will be asked to believe he is a Christian.

  16. Canon G, stranger things have happened.

  17. That's not the song I thought of, Mimi. I thought:

    Send in the clowns.
    Where are the clowns?
    There should be clowns.

    Don't bother . . .

    They're here.

  18. Ah Mark, the clowns are good, too.

  19. I gotta say (well, besides "welcome home, Grandmère),
that photo looks like they are gettin' ready for some serious spittle-flecked snake handlin'.

  20. Oh noooo, Padre! Not the spittle-flecked variety!

  21. Oh, this makes me want to weep.

That's just all I can say right now.
