MAXINE'S SATURDAY MESSAGE

Don't blame me. Blame Paul A.'s mother-in-law.

PS: More to come later.

  1. FWIW: Um, really not too happy about joke #2 (Note that the proverbial "transvestite"---cross-dresser is much the preferred, self-chosen term, BTW---is grouped w/ the "Revs" Bakker and Swaggert, and "your boss". NO ONE wants to be in THAT company!)

[wv, "lundead": Lesbian Vampires? ("undead" + "l" word >:-D..)]

  2. JCF, point taken about cross-dresser as opposed to transvestites, although I have heard cross-dressers refer to themselves as transvestites. I'm just saying.

I hesitated about No. 2, but I went ahead and took a chance. Hey, its a joke. And Maxine is not PC.

There are 12 or so of the Maxine jokes and they are randomly arranged, not to indicate any kind of meaningful groupings suggestive of like with like.

Shall I delete the post? It will be forever in Google Reader, and folks will come looking for it anyway.

  3. So what's wrong with A Sweet Transvestite from Transsexual Transylvania, anyway?

I just don't think A Sweet Cross-Dresser from Crossed-Up Charing Cross would ever have made it with the movie cultists.

(Could it be that not absolutely everyone is familiar with the tunes from the Rocky Horror Picture Show? Impossible!)

Apologies if this is one of the words that may be used only within the group. That's certainly a valid rule in many cases, but transvestite just didn't seem like one.

However, #1 definitely caught me off guard. A genuine LOL.

wv: cycle, like the one Meatloaf rides in on.

Porlock, my thought, too, but perhaps the word may be used only within the group. If so, I did not know that.

  5. JMO, but that "Sweet Transvestite" will forever be in 1975 (Didja see? Rocky Horror is just coming out---so to speak---in Blu-Ray! :-D)

Like I said, cross-dresser is the much preferred term (as in, "not the only" term. Yes, some men---maybe even a few women---still use it)

No, I don't care if you leave it up. Just more of an FYI thing, if you see another (c. 2010) "transvestite" joke come down the pike...

"It's not PC": hmmm, that's a tough one.

Case in point: the the "Why Are You Gay?" (ala Village People's "YMCA") video, from Yankee Stadium (recently posted at Joe.My.God's).

At first blush, I honestly laughed. It's clever, in a ("non PC") "Let's get on the case of the opposing team jersey-wearer" fannish way. [As a Giants fan, I know what *I* feel towards someone wearing opposing jerseys/hats at AT&T in San Fran! >:-0]

It's also HORRIFYINGLY homophobic. Not funny AT ALL. [The Yankees organization promises to put a stop to it. That means they'll probably have to (sadly) stop playing "YMCA", for a start.]

To say something is "not PC" CAN become a blanket "...so I don't have to give a damn whose feelings I'm hurting" rationale, if one's not careful.

    JMO.

JCF, thanks for the tip. I'm glad you told me. Most people do use cross-dresser these days.
