I LOVED this! I stole it for my blog. The line about Franklin's proverb (my mother always mis-attributed it to Jesus) "belched out between mouthfuls of French whore" has me howling with laughter and coughing uncontrollably at the same time. I HATE that proverb and always have.
Those two have a fine pair of ethno-religious backgrounds for their jobs. It was Colbert who once addressed his monologue to the Pope, pointing out, "Just because you're infallible, that doesn't mean you're never wrong." Quite true, and well known to Catholics and a few weirdos (ahem) outside the church; but who else would dare say it?
As I said before, Colbert must be a member of a very progressive parish. He's sincere and quite open about his faith, and he's comfortable and mature enough to joke about the foibles of his church.

Thanks Grandmere!
Counterlight, this is Stephen at his best. The video needs to be spread far and wide. Why do we need Big Media when we have Stephen and Jon?
ReplyDeleteI blogged it and Facebooked it.
ReplyDeleteHa! I loved it too!!! I also FB'd it!! Thank you Grandmere!
ReplyDeleteCounterlight, the line you quoted nearly made me choke when I heard it.
ReplyDeleteColbert is at his best when he uses his knowledge of religion (IMHO)
ReplyDeleteAmelia, I heard that Stephen teaches catechism classes. He must belong to a progressive RC parish.
ReplyDeleteThe last line of the clip you posted is the kicker and the keeper.
ReplyDeleteAnd, there's a youtube of him singing "Who is this King of Glory?" .... and dancing all the while. It is hilarious.
