And pray for my a member of my family and my friends who are searching for jobs:
My daughter, Alison
Adrian
David & friends
JCF
JimB
Jonathan (MadPriest)
Padre Mickey
Penny
And for all who are unemployed or underemployed:
Heavenly Father, we remember before you those who suffer want and anxiety from lack of work. Guide the people of this land so to use our public and private wealth that all may find suitable and fulfilling employment, and receive just payment for their labor; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
From Ann in the comments:
Prayers for our son in law - David - who is having a thyroid biopsy and maybe more depending on what they find out. Dec. 20.
Amen to all that.
ReplyDeleteAlso JCF, I believe is looking for work :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Mimi.
Cathy, JCF is on my list. That I left him out was a mistake. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteI'm also unemployed and looking for work and would appreciate your prayers.
ReplyDeletePenny
Penny, I added your name to the list. I'm glad to do it, but it makes me sad to see the list grow longer.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mimi. It is a long list, but I am in good company. May we soon see better times.

ReplyDeleteWell I can report so far that not only was the job for a completely different section to the one advertised, meaning I was unprepared for the general knowledge questions the chap fired at me, but there was a bomb scare half way through the written test so I am still unfinished on that because everyone had to evacuate the building.
ReplyDeleteThat wasn't all - they asked me at the last minute to work a shift today, so the interview guy said why don't you go home now, come back and finish the test at the start of your shift, but I couldn't get home very easily because the Tube had broken down and then when I tried to get a cab instead the cash machine broke down as soon I tried to get some money out to pay for the cab.
Is this a sign from God? ...
Oh well, maybe I'll get some kind of sympathy vote from them :-(
Cathy, that sounds rough. But hopeful, if they told you to come back and work a shift! I know what you mean, though, about the sign. I've had things go smoothly and work out well and other things full of obstacles and turn out very badly, so I'm kind of superstitious about that myself. But I try to remember that my superstitious are not necessarily borne of wisdom. Good luck and do report back to us!

Is this a sign from God? ...
ReplyDeleteCathy, what else could have gone wrong? Harm to life and limb is all I can think of. TBTG that didn't happen.
Once the hirers recognize your brilliance and skill, you may also get a dollop of sympathy and the job.
Penelopepiscopal, would that the shift were a hopeful sign, but I do work here anyway as a freelance and it is in connection with that, not the interview, alas.
ReplyDeleteMimi - thanks, darlin' :-)
Not even sure I want the job - I haven't ever worked on the media and technology sections. I applied because the ad said it was news and business, two of my favourite sections to work on on both papers. Also there is a maternity-leave job going on travel apparently too, which was mentioned this morning at the interview, but it is not clear to me whether they are interviewing me for that or not. It's such chaos. :-(
Anyway, thanks for your prayers, Mimi and all.
My mother, as a small child, asked a neighbour, whose one-eyed husband was somewhat susceptible to alcohol, why her husband had only one eye. She received the reply "He lost it looking for work!"
ReplyDeleteThat aside, hope all went well with today's interview.
Thanks Lapin :-) I must remember that anecdote.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out they were also interviewing me for the contract on the travel section, not that they asked me any questions about travel. Not that I applied for it, either.
Oh, dear. It always seems to be this way with newspapers.
Ann, I added David to the list. Another name....
ReplyDeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteI know that [a division of Uncle Sam] is considering a couple of my applications, presently. And I have another {sigh} job fair tomorrow (the employers at these things are usually a joke---but sometimes, you make a link to a link to a link via them, to SOMETHING worthwhile)
JCF, I hope one of the apps results in a job. And you might luck out at the job fair. I'll continue to pray.
ReplyDeleteLapin, BTW, (this is off-topic I fear but the original foodie topic has now receded down the queue somewhat), today I did some food shopping and I have bought quite a sizable supply of Bury's finest black pudding to store in my freezer.
ReplyDelete(Apols for going off-topic, Mimi)
ReplyDeleteDeeply envious, Cathy. A lost taste of my childhood - hot, split, with plenty of liquid English mustard to clear the sinuses.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried black pudding with English mustard, though it is an obvious pairing. I like it with chilli ketchup and a runny egg on toast (did I say that on the last post?). I will have to give mustard a go. I bet it would be nice with Dijon mustard.
ReplyDeleteI used to buy them at Bury Market on cold damp winter evenings and eat them that way on my way home from school, Cathy, so it's a Proustian thing. Dijon mustard would work fine.
ReplyDeleteLapin, black pudding is damn good as a winter food, I have to say. I can see it would cheer up the walk home from school.
