In the following video, Amos calls on Marines to look out for and respect each other and to value diversity. He makes the implementation of the change a matter of pride, a matter of the values of Marines, a matter of stepping up to do what they are called to do. Because they are Marines.
NOTE: Gen. Amos was the only member of the military Joint Chiefs of Staff to testify in Congress in opposition to the repeal of DADT. He a fine leader.
I like this! It is very classy!!
ReplyDeleteIs General Amos the same person that testified before the Senate hearing that he feared what repeal would do to the Corps?
susan, he is, but he's a good Marine.

ReplyDeleteIIRC, General Amos was the only one of the service chiefs actually opposed to repeal. This video is about real leadership - and all the moreso given that backstory.
ReplyDeleteAs an officer, I sometimes had to enact decisions I didn't agree with. In the end, I always had a choice - follow the order or resign my commission. Either was an honourable option.
Too many wrongly believe that there is some honour in disobeying the order while remaining at their post. Such people are a disgrace to their uniform.
General Amos, BZ.
