"WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR?"

Read Rmj's latest post at Adventus on the words of the new guvna of Alabama, Robert Bentley, as to who are his "brothers and sisters".

  1. Sad to say, this is our new governor. Also, sad to say, he was, for a very short time, my dermatologist. Among his more ill-conceived notions is his plan to spend a ton of money this state simply does not have fighting the new national health care program. He’ll squander it; we’ll lose the battle. We have a history of idiots in the statehouse who make idiotic grandstand plays like this as if we could afford it. He will do that while cutting back on the safety net for every poor person in need that this state already underfunds. We must endure this for a minimum of four years. The way the electorate is in this state, perhaps even eight. He also got a Republican majority for the first time in the legislature. Pray for us.

BooCat, as we do, present govna of Louisiana included. Each one of them commits idiocies in his/her own special way.

  3. Texas is right there with ya. Gov. Goodhair Perry says the people of Texas won't abandon children (education) and the poor (Medicaid), but that we can't raise taxes so....

Despite massive public support for Medicaid and school funding (polls show no support for laying off teachers), the state is going to slash education funding, and may yet just drop out of Medicaid. My wife works for a school district, and they're saying the cuts are "scary." And they knew deep cuts were coming; but not this deep.

When teachers are laid off across the state, maybe people will pay attention. Or maybe not. It's not a good future.

  4. And what a coincidence that we are all from southern states!

  5. I think I'd take the word "color" out of the quote. Where do these people get off presuming to speak for God when all they mean is "you're no good unless you agree 100% with my theology..." and I use that last word loosely.

  7. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but it's just painful to hear a politician be so utterly stupid out loud.
If it's any consolation to anyone... Florida elected a guy who bilked the federal government out of one-point-seven billion dollars in a Medicare scandal. I guess that's how he plans to plug our ever-expanding budget hole... while totally deregulating everything.

  8. I can't rejoice that other states have problem governors, too, but knowing I am not alone makes for a certain camaraderie....
