Is Julian Linnell an ACNA member on an Anglican Communion group?
The AC group is the Evangelism and Church Growth Initiative (ECGI).
Read Mark's entire post and the comments.
Paul Powers says in the comments:
He's on a list of clergy in Pittsburgh who have been released from licensed ministry in the Episcopal Church.

I said in the comments to Mark's post:
On the one hand, I have the sense that someone or more than one in the ACO may be trying to sneak something by us in TEC that will be the first step in having parallel churches recognized as part of the AC here in the US.
On the other hand, I wonder if the folks in the ACO even know to which church the Rev Dr Linnell belongs.
Some might say, I'm a tad suspicious, and I would not quarrel with them.
UPDATE: Mark has more information at Preludium.
Following up on my earlier post in which I asked "Is Julian Linnell an ACNA member of an Anglican Communion group?" the answer appears to be "yes." Thanks to several readers who found additional information on this.

Mimi,
ReplyDeleteI beleive that while this MAY be a tragic slip up on someone's part I think our overall international lobbying attempts are woefully inadequate whil ACNA is far more influential (in this arena). See Real Anglicans.
Fred is right. Shame on them. And, shame on us for our woefully inadequate lobbying attempts.
ReplyDeleteI hear in all of this a real call to roll up our sleeves and work harder.
Are the folks in the ACO that incompetent? Or is the appointment a deliberate snub? TEC seems to be the member of the family who has to beg for a place at the family dinner table. As an Episcopalian, I'm no longer sure that I want to be part of that family.
ReplyDeleteI imagine that Fr Mark, who has had more than his fair share of "reasserter" trolls recently, may be in for a hard time for this. He's got far more patience than I would have, for sure!
ReplyDeleteLapin, I'm glad Mark caught the story. He had the scoop, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, +Katharine Jefferts Schori was the only Primate to be re-elected to the Primates' Standing Committee, so TEC isn't just invited to Thanksgiving dinner, it has a seat at the grown-up's table.
ReplyDeleteIf Dr. Linnell had been chosen as a priest in the ACNA that might have been a snub. It appears though that he was chosen as part of Anglican Frontier Missions, which isn't part of any denomination. Given AFM's work in planting churches in areas where there is no indigenous church, the group probably wanted someone with his expertise. In retrospect, though, it might have been better to have him on the group as a "consultant". They still would have had the benefit of his expertise without all this controversy.
Paul, perhaps Rowan didn't use his powers of persuasion and lay his job on the line to pull the vote away from KJS.
ReplyDeleteDr Linnell may have been chosen for the reason you suggest, but when I think of members of TEC being reduced to consultant status on the ecumenical committee, Linnell's appointment to full membership on the AC evangelical committee seems very odd and out of order.
