STORY OF THE DAY - SIDE BY SIDE

We sat side by side in the morning light
& looked out at the future together.
The story reminds me of sitting with Grandpère 50 years ago next month. Knowing what I know today, the good times and the difficult times, I would do it all over again.

  1. What a lovely comment on your marriage. Grandpere is a very lucky man to have you.

  2. Well, Erika, I think that Mimi is a lucky woman to have Tom, too!

  3. Thank you both. You are both correct. ;-)

I hope GP would say the same. He's not home now, but I will ask him when he returns.

  4. It's a great achievement really, reaching 50 years. It seems admirable to me. I hope you will be celebrating with a little champagne? ... I know you only like the good stuff Mimi ... or is it all champagne that gives you a headache? I can't remember right this moment, but I hope you will be marking the occasion with a celebration, anyway :)

  5. The cockles of my heart are duly warmed by your comment. How very nicely put. May the years to come be blessed in every way. You and Tom are a fine example to us all.

I am so grateful to know you online and in person. You are one of God's good gifts to me.

  6. Cathy, a glass or two of Dom Perignon gives me no pain.

Two years ago, I thought we should have a big party. Last year, I though maybe a smaller party. This year, we've decided on a family dinner at a nice restaurant. The number of celebrants seems to have shrunk over the years, but GP and I are both happy with the present plans.

  7. I think that calls for an Internet love-fest. Not sure what that would look like, but it definitely needs to happen.

  8. Paul, you make me blush. You often make me blush. Sometimes it's from your lovely, extravagant compliments, and other times it's from your naughty commentary. Color me red.

Tim, you, of all people, call for an internet love fest! Do I dare ask for the details?

  9. I think a family dinner is a lovely idea. Just make sure there is some good bubbly included. You are a great couple and are fortunate to have each other.

  10. Tim of all people, indeed. If I were capable of blushing I think I should. (I remember what my parents thought a love-in on a college campus was like. Their imagination far outstripped the playful nature of the reality on a fairly conservative campus.) I cede the naughty to Tim today.

My regular naughtiness will, no doubt, return soon enough.

  11. Should I have saved the story for the actual anniversary? Will all y'all think, 'Been there, done that', on the big day? :-)

  12. I think that we should declare it 'Tom and Mimi Day' in the official kalendar. At least, for this year!

  13. You are a wonderful and charming couple. What an achievement. I hope there will be many years for "the best is yet to be"!

  14. Tim, now that's very kind.

IT, I'd say 'charming and wonderful' about you and BP. I hope you make it to 50 years together.
