Isn't Scarborough where you had the railway malfunction? We sang this hymn quite often at school when I was young, but a bit faster than this and with plenty of spirit and enjoyment.
Lapin, yes. The damned door wouldn't open at the Thornaby station where I was to get off, so I had to ride to Scarborough and get on another train back to Thornaby.
Paul (A.), the choir in the video sang much more slowly than we sing the hymn in my church. I prefer a livelier version myself. I'll check out your video.
Me too! Took me back to Blighty. Thanks, Grandmere
ReplyDeleteThanks for changing my earworm. Love this tune and the hymn is pretty good too.
ReplyDeleteI'm with PseudoPiskie --thanks for changing the earworm! I've been singing the tune of 'Come though long expected Jesus' but have changed the words:
ReplyDeleteCome thou long expected buyer,
This ol' house from us relieve,
etc....
kt, the scenes makes me want to go back to Blighty, too. There's something about the Northeast near the sea that calls to me.
ReplyDeletePiskie and margaret, now I've passed on my earworm, The hymn has been in my head all day, and I wanted company to sing.
Oh margaret, you made me laugh. Come thou long expected buyer, indeed.

ReplyDeleteSorry, Mimi, but fond as I am of boychoirs, this is too wimpy for my taste. This is more robust, and it includes a descant.
