NEW ORLEANS JAZZ GREATS - 'BUCKET'S GOT A HOLE IN IT'

Uptown Bumps (1958).... Featuring: Sweet Emma Barrett, Punch Miller, Slow Drag Pavageau, George Guesnon, Paul Barbarin, Peter Bocage, Charlie Love, George Levis, Louis Nelson
When Preservation Hall opened in 1961, it was my great pleasure to hear music played by the New Orleans jazz musician greats featured in the video.

  1. Mimi, although I grew up on Bayou Lafourche I wasn't exposed to New Orleans jazz until I went away to college, at Nashvile, in 1951-55. There several of us listened every Sunday evening to WWL radio (it had a strong signal and could be heard even farther away), which had a weekly program of classic jazz.

  2. Ormonde, I heard the music on the old 75rpm records on the wind-up Victrola all my life, but the first time I heard the black musicians who made jazz history live was when Preservation Hall opened.

I remember going on a date one time to the Famous Door on Bourbon St, where we heard excellent jazz by, if I remember correctly, Sharkey Bonano and his band, along with being entertained with a strip show, which revealed no more than what you'd see on the beach today.
