BLOGGER'S SPAM FILTER WORKS

Some weeks ago, I removed the function for typing in the fuzzy and frustrating letters for my readers to  to prove they are not robots.  Blogger's spam filter works quite well.  I have not had a spam comment to delete for days, and my legitimate commenters are not blocked.

For those bloggers amongst you who still enable the fuzzy letter function, I suggest that you disable it and give Blogger's system a try.  If the system doesn't work for you, then you can always enable the robot blocker again.  It's annoying to have to try to decipher the fuzzy letters and then type the pairs of words three or four times before being able to post a comment.

  1. I agree.

Blogger spam control does a great job of keeping out all the commercial spam, and keeps my biggest fan Brad Evans under control. Think of how much time, energy, and money he spends just to get around the spam blocker to troll my blog!

  2. Counterlight, I don't know why more bloggers don't at least try the system.

  3. "Turnip Ghost", Counterlight? That was a nasty piece he posted for you early in the week. New low, even for him.

  4. I also removed the word verification at Jake's, and it seems to be working fine

  5. IT, it's sooo frustrating to me to have to type in the letters three or four times before posting a comment, so I'm happy I can spare my commenters the annoyance.

  7. Hello Grandmere Mimi--

I really appreciate that the fuzzy letters are gone. And that "prove you are not a robot" phrase. I felt like I had to be a robot to decipher those letters.

Also, I did leave you a comment on your "unknown plant" but uncertain as to whether or not you saw it. I think it is a hosta plantagenia.

Sorry to hear that you just got spammed.

  8. I thought the fuzzy letters were a problem with my aging eyes. Now it seems my eyes have gotten better.

  9. susankay, I dislike the fuzzy letters intensely. I've even given up on leaving a comment when I fail after 4 and sometimes 5 tries. The spam was linked to a sports betting website. I doubt that Wounded Bird would be a fertile field to gather new customers.

  10. Mimi, thank you, those fuzzy letters seemed to get worse recently and it is so frustrating. Sometimes I give up also.

    Bravo!

  11. Nij, you're welcome. I tempted fate, and one spam comment came through, but nothing since. I won't brag again.

    1. JCF, don't you like to know if someone responds to your comment?

  13. I agree completely. I do not type about it much, but I am loosing sight fairly fast. The fuzzy letters make me nuts. I shall have to give up commenting on several of my favorite blogs fairly soon if they remain. I cannot read the regular script half the time, the {{}} fuzzy type is impossible.

I think the spam filters work quite well. Oh, I have to delete something once in a great while, usually on the basis of violating my very liberal "stay within musket shot of the topic" rule. But not very often do I see this. The filters work fine.

JCF, what does Maddie have against the pop-up comments? I use them, drop by and write a nostalgic comment! ;-)

    1. Jim, just yesterday I gave up trying to post a comment at another blog after 5 unsuccessful tries. The fuzzy letters are cruel and unusual punishment.
